Re: Off the shelf drop shot rod?
I live in the UK and we don't have many of the rods you guys have and almost no shops which stock any range which you could have a wiggle of to see whether you think they are appropriate for what you're trying to do. I can look at the tackle warehouse site and see the various brands, but it isn't li...

Re: Off the shelf drop shot rod?
I don't like the standard build of the Phenix or dobyns DX rods, but I can easily get a Phenix umbx700m blank and build myself the rod I'd like. Dammit, I was hoping to avoid that!
Anyone know where I can buy Kigan tangle free guides? Mudhole don't do them.

Re: Off the shelf drop shot rod?
On the TW website it recommends the 701SF for dropshotting and the 702 for shakey heads. I'd be inclined towards the 702 as I'd be afraid the 701 would be too light. In the other rod series the 2 power rods tend to be listed for dropshot, so are the champion series noticeably stiffer, or is it a typ...

Re: Off the shelf drop shot rod?
Thanks Finnz. I expect that megabass is a great stick, but I hate the japanese style handles. Way too much material, especially in front of the reel, where I want my finger to be on the blank. The Dobyns Savvy micro or Champion look like they might be contenders, especially if the Champion has tangl...

Re: Off the shelf drop shot rod?
Thanks, just looked at them. I'm sure the blank is great, but it's super ugly and I can't be doing with REC guides. It's a problem when you're used to building your own rods as your aesthetic and practical ideals are different to other peoples. Any views on the Shimano Cumara DS rod? The handle look...

Off the shelf drop shot rod?
I like making rods, but they always end up costing me a fortune by the time I've fitted them out with the rings and details I like, a similarly built off the shelf rod is usually much cheaper, so.. what does anyone recommend for a drop shot rod? I'm thinking 7ft +- extra fast action with a softish t...

Re: Need Shorter Length Top Water / Jerk Bait Rod Help !
Rapsody rods make a great 6'3" rod which I borrowed on a trip in July. Really impressed with it for topwaters and jerkbaits. Nice light tip for casting but some power lower down. EDIT Just checked the website, and it's a 6'6" rod http://rapsodyfishing.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=60...

Re: Morrum 1600 problem/question
Just stick some mono on it and give it a few casts, you'll be able to determine whether the problem's with the reel or the line as mono always works.

Re: Newboro Lake - Ontario Canada?!
Fantastic chain of lakes. I was up there in July with a friend at his cottage. Had a 5.25 smallie out of Indian lake fishing the deep side of a point. Plenty of good largemouth fishing shallow, either on the shoreline or the weedy flats. Smallie are more nomadic and harder to track down, but are gen...

Re: Tranx - can we expect LHW versions?
Most europeans prefer LHW baitcasters too. I would think it would be around 3:1 in favor of left hand wind baitcasters. Not sure how many $500 baitcasters you'd need to sell to pay for the tooling, but certainly a lot less than the £150 dollar ones.

Re: need a red 8 braid line
Not sure how many strands in spiderwire code red, but it's a very smooth braid, much smoother than power pro. That might do you?

Re: Sleeper Drop Shot Plastics ?
Strike King 3x plastics 4" finesse worm is an amazing bait. Super buoyant and indestructible! If you're fishing somewhere with a lot of rock bass or sunnies that keep pecking at your bait you can keep fishing a cast with confidence that they haven't pulled the bait off the hook with these. Now if th...
