Weight or Balance..thoughts?
A buddy of mine had coffee with me recently and the topic of rod balance came up. He's been bass fishing well beyond my 40 plus years and I would estimate he has owned over 300 rods and probable still has most of them. It was my position and still is the balance of a rod is more important than the t...

Re: Budget Cranking Rod
My nephew and another friend (also my mail man) both bought the Fury 705CB and I was able to compare it to my Champion and make some casts on the water. For the bait range you mentioned, this model would perform very well. I liked the way the action paralleled the Champion, but a tad bit slower. The...

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP video = new DX rods
Okay, now you have my curiosity sparked. I weighed my Gen 2 DX784ML on a decent diet scale that measures in grams and ounces..... 4.82 ounces. My new DX743HP....4.61 ounces. The four snickerdoodle cookies I am now eating....4.1 ounce. Anyone want to trade a DX for my cookies? I'm on a "balanced" di...

Re: Lew's Tournament Pro dual brake vs Pro G Centrifugal bra
So I take it, no one here has picked up the new LEW'S BB1.2 Magnesium Lite LFS Pro ZG Heavy Duty Inshore Tournament Pro in the left hand 7.97 to 1 gear ratio ????? Try and keep up. It's like ordering a coffee at Starbucks.

Re: Lew's Tournament Pro dual brake vs Pro G Centrifugal bra
I agree completely with Mark. The external brake system on the LFS platform is the same as featured on the BB1 Pro. I have all three but have the LFS MB. The Pro G wasn't available yet. The handle option on the Pro G, as Mark shared, is longer and MUCH more comfortable. If you do chose to run with a...

Re: new stuff is better
Mark, I never took it like that. The very fact you have a long history and experienced the evolution of all this stuff validates your view better than most. Younger anglers who start with the gear available today might not appreciate where it started. Not to be long winded..... there is a line from ...

Re: new stuff is better
My buddy and I have fished together for 37 years and we talked about this at coffee the other day. We reflected on where tackle, boats, electronics were at in the 70's through today. We could say new stuff is better every ten years. I can remember when I purchased my very first Lew's LP reel and boy...

Re: Best Casting Reel for Lite Crankbaits?
I can't believe your Chronarch won't perform with that size bait. That's a good reel. Having a rod that will load up, at least some, is important as previously mentioned. I fish Bandits with a Lew's Team Pro and #10 but use a soft mono. The lighter baits aren't deep runners so flouro isn't an issue ...

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP video = new DX rods
The DX 701 SF HP is back and posted on the Dobyns website. I have the DX Gen 2 DX 742 SF. I fish shakey heads, drop shot, tubes and hula grubs up to 3/8 ounce. It works.

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP video = new DX rods
Couple of questions to dink dawg - Are the handle lengths about the same compared to 2nd gen? How is balance compared to 2nd gen. Balance is really important to me and one of the key features that I love about Dobyns DX. Thanks! That's a good question and why I set the tape up. The handle is 7/8 in...

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP video = new DX rods
Sorry for the poor resolution. I did fish my HP for about four hours Tuesday. The catching was not there. I did experience some impressive sensitivity with a jig and T rig. I took the time to throw 3/16 to 3/4 ounce. That range is accurate. I dropped a BB1 Pro on it and Balance ( see edited post ) w...

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP video = new DX rods
Got it yesterday afternoon. I went with the split grip on this one which is out of my norm, I like full rear grips. The new handle design is longer and contoured and fits my large hand so much better. This series is not a cosmetic makeover, trust me on that. The blank is very different that my other...

Re: Dobyns rod
One of the Champion CB ModFast graphite rods would be my choice unless you like a faster rod for spinnerbaits. I use braid and prefer a more moderate action on my spinnerbait rods for better hookup percentage. 684CB or 685CB depending on if you want the rod on the light or heavy side power wise. Da...

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP video = new DX rods
Well, let's just find out. I have a the DX743HP on it's way. Should have it Friday, I hope. The best part is the AFLAC duck paid for it.
