No Shimano, No Daiwa

I understand all the back and forth between these 2 major fishing reel manufacturers, and being new to the site noticed a poll currently has 322 posts relating to the topic. Now the question I have, is if all those who voted Daiwa or Shimano had to use neither of them, who would your reel manufactur...

Re: Topwater Rod Comparison

Thank you, my budget is generally from $120-$200, I can change it either way though, just depends. I do not fish topwater much though, so I do not want to spend a massive amount (unless I can find use in it as a multipurpose setup). The smallest baits I plan to use would be (topwater category): 1/4 ...

Re: Why doesn't Daiwa face the TWS grooving issue?(with pics)

I am one of the few who got a groove on the front of my t-wing, somehow got it from hitting something I guess, it would keep the line from sliding back to the middle after beginning retrieve, which bunched it up on the right side (where the nick was). They fixed that one quick and in a hurry with th...

Re: Daiwa Steez SV vs. SS SV vs. Zillion SV TWS

I feel alone at times in that everyone else doesn't seem big on the SS/SV, I bought mine for like $180 after getting a gift card and using a sale... I cannot cast 1/8oz like my SV105, but I have 12lb Invisx on mine and chunk 3/16 Easy Shiners (4" on ball head). If price goes into consideration it is...

Topwater Rod Comparison

I have been searching for a rod for a while to be a multipurpose topwater setup. After reading I realize many people use all kinds of powers and tapers for this technique. I am ordering a Lew's Custom Speed Stick 6'8"ML fast Topwater Special, but mainly using it on an SS/SV w/ 12F for finesse, becau...

Re: Curado 70 or Casitas MGL?

I am pretty sure the SS/SV103 has Magforce Z like lower end models and the other SV reels have Air Brake or some variation on Magforce. I know comparing to the Steez SV or SV103, etc. reels with same spool, the SS/SV103 inductor is different. I had strangely posted on this somewhere else recently co...

Re: (Help)Daiwa SV question: related to spool only?

From the engineering I have studied, it is only related to the spool, they do mention the brakes working with it, but they are technically part of the spool anyways. The brakes seem to make a difference though, my SS/SV103 has what they call magforce Z and after trying a friends SV103 (zillion based...

Re: Curado 70 or Casitas MGL?

Curado 70/71 should be little more expensive than Casitas MGL. And as far as comparing the construction inside, Curado 70/71 has 2 bearings ( one normal 3×10×4, one smaller 5x9x3) under spool tension noble comparing Casitas only has one. I assume this bearing will help casting little bit. You could...

Re: 1st Post, Daiwa or Shimano???

Well I already own the SV, they are cheaper and great, but if I get the Chronarch MGL it should be a little more versatile, I do think the rated line capacity on the Alphas/sv105 is very generous. I have almost gone to spool more than a few times with 3/16 and a larger plastic (using 12lb, 10 or 8 i...

Re: 1st Post, Daiwa or Shimano???

My Chronarchs(not MGL) have no issue casting a 1/8-3/8oz ball jig with a 3" swimbait(Matrix Shads). Shouldn't have any problems at all casting those Keitechs with the Ch MGL. Thank you. I used a friend's Ci4+ for a while during last tournament and he had a Santone 5/16 finesse jig but that would ab...

Re: 1st Post, Daiwa or Shimano???

I understand completely, I just call an alphas that because I am new to this and did pay the extra price. Also all the new Daiwas are majorly based off one another to save money with minor changes to justify price jumps (still love them all). I just wanted to know from an owner of a curado 70, Chron...

Re: 1st Post, Daiwa or Shimano???

Didn't want to add a whole new thread for another question, but was wondering after trying to search the forum and find it... My SV105 easily casts an 1/8oz road runner with a 2" crappie grub (with 8 or 10F), I don't HAVE to be able to do that with the new reel I am hunting, but would like to know t...

Re: Calcutta Conquest BFS

Is it bad to be left and use right handed reels? Figure I could use both...

Also what was the price after shipping if you don't mind? Those have the Finesse Tune Brake just like the Aldebaran BFS right?

Re: 1st Post, Daiwa or Shimano???

Last question then for now, this goes for either/both Daiwa and Shimano, will they still warranty Japanese reels? For example my SS/SV103 is full Japansee instructions. Would I send them to the place where I would send my Tatula or Ci4+??? Thanks again for all the answers, I don't know how many ques...

Re: The Worse ..........

Reel: Haven't honestly had a bad one, maybe Revo Winch because the brakes began to stick out making casts like 15ft, but fixed it by locking those and only using 2 other blocks, and thumb bar sticks. Rod: Bass Pro Carbonlite, original black ones, bought for like $50 supposed to rate down to 1/16 spi...
