SALT REELS

Thinking of adding this reel to my collection
Any opinions and experiences on how a Shimano Metanium DC 7.4 will hold up in the salt?
It would be used for casting 1/4 to 3/4 oz. plastics or fly lined bait.

thank you in advance

Almost a Lemon

Recently picked up the Daiwa Alphas 105 sh for light salt plastic casting. Mounted it on a new Dobyns 704cb glass and took it on a maiden calico bass fishing trip to the Channel Islands, CA. Using a 1/4 oz. my 1st cast looped back and almost hooked my ear. I tried backing off the left drag dial and ...

DAIWA ALPHAS SV 105HS

I can easily figure out the reel basics but was wondering if there is a Daiwa website to translate instruction manual that comes with the reel from Japanese to English?

DAIWA ALPHAS 105

Information seems thin online. Can you tell me if the Alphas are ok for saltwater?

Calico bass. A light jig with squid or flylined anchovie gets bit when plastics don't work.

Shimano Exsence DC vs, Metanium DC

I am interested in choosing one of the above DC reels for saltwater fishing. Not sure about the metanium in salt?
All thing being equal which reel performs best at casting plastics 1/8 to 1/4 oz? Anyone have either/or both reels and can advise

SPIING GEAR

ULTRA LITES I am interested in a new saltwater spinning rod/reel for casting 1/8-1/4 oz. plastics and anchovies. I’ve been using an 13 Omen 7’11” and Shimano exsence for 1/4oz. The rod should be 7 ½ to 8’ and cast far. The reel will be filled with 30# spectra and 15-25# flouro. topshots. Looking to ...

FRED HALL SHOW

the FH show opened yesterday in Long Beach, Ca. Has anyone been there? I'd be interested in hearing if anyone is carrying Dobyns rods.

Re: braid cutter

Like the Boomerang. Mine lasted about 3 years b4 the blades wore down. Ordered another from TW that didn't make the cut. I got in touch with Boomerang and received a replacement in a couple of days.
YMMV

Re: Your opinions Talica 12ii Vs MXL Raptor

The talica 12/2 speed is the bomb. It casts small baits almost as good as a baitcaster. The drags are excellent. Last year I used it on 20 yellowfin & bluefin up to 40lbs. The annual reel service indicated zero wear on the drags. I just used it on another 4 day tuna trip without incident. That said,...

so is Tuf line so low on choices that it didn't make the list?
For salt I am very happy casting the XP and have had no bad experiences
