Check the Anti Reverse bearing. Rain may have washed out any lube it had causing surface rust and it will feel rough when turning the handle if this is the case. I fish in the rain often and this has happened a few times in the past. Definitely sounds like a warranty claim though.

Koppers have worked the best for me. The Boze Sumo frog is a close second. That Owner frog hook usually sticks them good.
