Re: 7' Medium Heavy + Fast Action blank?

NFC MB 709-1 HM - 675 Phenix TX-715H-C - 655 Point Blank PB701MHF - 596 Thanks for these numbers. My Phenix K2 715 is my frog rod. I feel it is a little heavier than all of my Loomis IMX 844's. It is really beefy. I'm surprised that is has an RDA of 655. I would think that it would be a little high...

Re: 7' Medium Heavy + Fast Action blank?

Thanks for those numbers. I may end up with an Elite-X NMB844. I have the Elite-X MB874 and I think that it is slightly lighter than the Loomis 874 and the Mudhole High-Mod 874 that I have. This makes me believe that the latest Mudhole blanks are slightly lighter that the old IMX blanks of the same ...

7' Medium Heavy + Fast Action blank?

Does anyone know of a high end blank that comes between the RDA 600 of the old IMX MBR843 and the RDA 670 of the old IMX MBR844 blank? I have a few old Loomis custom 843 and 844 blanks, as well as several Mudhole Elite-X blanks supposedly made with some of the old Loomis equipment (very similar feel...

Re: UL Topwater Fishing

I did a lot of ultralight fishing in the late 70's and early 80's as a kid. The Rapala Floating Minnow in size 5 was a staple. So was the small Pop-R. I caught just about everything that swims on them. I target bigger fish more often now, but when the bass are on tiny bait i still break them out. Th...

Re: What color Senko should I use?

You really only need three colors. A black with blue flake for low light and darker water. Green pumpkin for all-around and #177 smoke with black and silver flake around schools of bait. They all catch fish, but you can get carried away with senko colors if you over think it.

Re: Tatsu vs FC Sniper.

This topic has been covered a lot in the past. You can use the search window. Sniper will be a little less manageable than Tatsu, but a little more sensitive. The softer layer on Tatsu makes for good knot performance, but less sensitivity because you have a softer material touching your guides. I'm ...

Re: Honest opinions...is BFS really worth trying?

BFS is really all about combining a light enough spool with the proper braking, the right rod, and the right line for the weight of lure that you are fishing. If any of those are off by much with the real light stuff, BFS becomes a chore. In the early 80's, I was fishing finesse worms on small Banta...

Re: Let's Talk Trebles

I really don't think that having the hooks in perfect alignment with a hard bait is that important. Many of the manufacturers don't either. That is why many don't have the eye of the hook aligned that way. I understand the sticking with what gives you confidence thing though. My treble replacement b...

Re: The CHEAPEST ROD BUILD

My rod builder got too old. It's now up to me to build, and I like simple. He did some cheap Mudhole spinning blank builds for my two son's that are great. I got tired of all of the Matagi trim parts on my custom rods anyway. All of my recent builds have been very minimalist with higher end blanks. ...

Re: Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity

The SS140 is the stiffest and fastest sinking of the braids that I have tried. You do start to lose some casting distance versus the SS112 because it is so stiff. The problem with the 140 is they don’t have it in yellow so it is hard to see.

Some chatterbait fun on the river. Caught 15 or so of these over slots on this trip ripping through shallow grass and getting some heavy thumps. 843 Conquest and Stile SS had a good workout https://i.postimg.cc/g2bS98qW/4-EBA2023-5-C69-410-B-B94-E-510967829952.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/x1Gs98tb/96-B...

Re: Skeet Reese goes to Kast King?

Rod breakage on TV doesn't influence me at all. What bothers me in the way that some of the tour pros abuse their sticks by high sticking, swinging fish, and banging them around. This just leads to premature breakage one way or another. I would hate to be one of the Lane brother's rods. Those guys b...

Re: Favorite artificial lures/ baits for mountain trout (UL)

CD5 in the various trout patterns. Don't be shy, even smaller 6" brookies love them. Brook trout will try to fit anything into their mouths. I remember spooking a frog into the stream and a brook trout came up and crushed it. The frog swam off but, the brook trout took it under. That frog was WAY t...

Re: Aftermarket Cast Control Cap for a TD Fuego

I don't know which threads those have. I think its the same as the Steez, TD Zillion, T3 ect from that era. Those make use of a clicker that also acts as a retainer. Without it the knobs will back off. I have one on my old Tatula HD which uses the same threads but no provision for a clicker. Its al...
