Re: BAITCASTING 201: Tweaking for maximum distance
Thanks for the kind words, people. That doesn't include you, Sandman . The "LOL" at the end of your post was mean and cruel: Bass season only opens at the end of next week over here!

Re: Opening the Daiwa Side Plate
Thanks for the tip, Sandman. Definitely no damage to the screw slot that way!sandman wrote:I use my thumb. Not my thumbnail, just my thumb. It does not have to be torqued down. It will stay tight and you can open it whenever you need to without any tools.

Re: Alphas and Pixy spools
Thanks, Cal. I was hoping for a bit more line capacity on the Pixy in some situations.

Calling Daiwa gurus! Are the spools interchangeable between the Pixy and the Alphas. My guess is they are, but I've been wrong before... Thanks!

Thanks, Bubba, Sandman.
Ice out as of last Wednesday, but no open season until April 28th.

Re: For you Line junkies.
Anybody who wants to can send a twelve foot sample and I'll be happy to do the tests using the exact same method so that comparisons can be made. I normally don't need more than six feet or so, but shoot happens (actually, it's just my sneaky way to get bits and pieces of line that I can tie togethe...

Re: For you Line junkies.
You did miss something, Skeeter: check out the author's name at the very end of the tests report; look familiar? I have a few more line samples coming in shortly to add to the mix, including the (in)famous Cajun Red. I was waiting for the final results to post the link here but you beat me to ...

Any reason not to use one of the many excellent superlines (braids or fusion) available today? You'd more than double the line capacity for a given line strength...

Re: Florocarbon Line Recommendations
I just love it when a company advertising department supposedly posts FACTS. :P I don't know about you guys, but "sensitivity (ultimate elongation)" takes the prize. Unless my understanding of the english language is getting worse, elongation is stretch, right? So the more stretch, the more sensitiv...

Re: Are soft crankin' rods really all that necessary?
They're certainly not NECESSARY, but since I use braid exclusively, the more moderate action typical of so-called "cranking" rods is a better fit for me. Of course, super sharp hooks are a must.

Re: Capricorn Baitcaster?
Less well known member of the Daiwa Procaster 6+1 and 100HN family (very favorably reviewed by Zander on 03/25/04). See also Procaster Bi; add a pair of extra ball bearings and you have the SE.
