Re: Deeper spool for Bantam MGL?
Either put good 30lb braid that isnt .015 diam, or drop to a thinner line. This. I’d put some calipers on that line and see what the actual diameter is. No way that reel holds less line than a 50. Its huge! Problem solved- Removed the line and taking it out of commission to send in and see if the c...

Re: Deeper spool for Bantam MGL?
Looking for more line capacity- Spooled with 30# Fireline Ultra 8 it only holds about 60 yards and i know a salmon is going to spool me any day.............. Not sure it makes a difference but this is a JDM reel Did you buy it new? If not, maybe the reel came with an aftermarket shallower spool to ...

Stiff thumb bar on Bantam MGL
Thumb bar is harder to depress than any of the dozen reels I have and gets noticeably harder in extreme cold. Any remedy for this besides sending it in to Shimano?

Re: Getting into BFS
I use a Tat CT with $40 DIY spool loaded with 6# fireline ultra 8 and throw 1/8 oz all day long for trout with ease. Prefer this over a Calcutta Conquest BFS HG I had and sold. Paired with the Teton 662 its a great trout set up. Is 1/8 oz the lowest the Teton 662 can handle? (Is the 662 Light or Ul...

Re: Protecting reels from scratches
I am quite careful and always keep them covered but bobber and egg fishing for salmon and having to rebait every few casts makes it impractical to cover reel every time..... If only i had a third arm!

Re: Protecting reels from scratches
SW reels are notorious for getting banged up on the SoCal longrange sport boats, they'd hit other reels or the walls when in the boat's rod holders. To prevent this from happening to my higher end reels, and rods too, I used 3M Clearbra on them. The same stuff used on cars. It's fairly easy to appl...

Protecting reels from scratches
Is there anything made to put on the body of a reel to protect it from scratches? Makes me sick to get scratches on a new reel but fishing the local rivers which are all rock it is impossible not to set the reel down on it for re baiting. Recently made the mistake of setting my rod down while trying...
