Re: which rod do i choose?????

I have (soon to be had, as I'm selling them) Loomis IMX and Fenwick Techna rods and they are very fine , but expensive, rods. They do the job well and Fenwick, at least here in Canada has the kind of quality customer service that can only be descibed as outstanding. Ive heard that Loomis can be diff...

Need input on the new Abu Garcia PGS 5600 series baitcasters

Looking for input on the new Abu PGS 5601 baitcaster. Looks like an aluminum Eon and it should have a very stout drag as well as being relativley lite. I have never seen one however and I would be gratefull to hear from anyone that has a direct experience with the reel. I have every thing from a 650...

Re: The New Ray Scott Spin Reel from US Reel

Thanks for the post Mike. I'll be waiting to read your followup post after you use it. What sort of rod have you teamed it up with? I recently bought a 7' Fenwick Techna rate 4-8lb. It's really light and sensative and should match up well assuming that the Scott reel functions well and I have the mo...

Re: My Favorite Topwater for Weeds

Try the weedless model even when running over open water. I find that the weedless Jitterbug "gurgles" much better than the regular or jointed models. I have even had lots of big bass hit it on landing or sititting at rest because the subtle movement of the skirt must entice them into biting. I go w...

Re: Who's been fishing with their new gear?

I don't think Alvey reels freespool so they would not accomplish the seemless drift that a true pin does. To cast a pin you do tug on the line prior to casting but it must be accomplished in conjunction with the actual casting of the bait. Again on floatfishing.net I believe there is a videotape of ...

Re: Who's been fishing with their new gear?

You are correct sir. They are very much like large arbor fly reels but generally without a drag. They also are very similar in appearance to mooching reels like those used for salmom on the west coast of Canada. Lots of fun to fish with as they give a perfect presentation of your bait as the float m...

Re: Who's been fishing with their new gear?

The GLX would be somewhere between a noodle rod and a conventional spin rod. Up here we use noodle rods with a centerpin reel . I have several noodle rods the longest being a 13' GL3 Loomis with a Loomis Tournament Drifter Centerpin reel (made right here in the Toronto area). About half of those str...

The New Ray Scott Spin Reel from US Reel

I've seen this reel for sale at Cabelas web site for a while now and I wonder if anyone has used it. I read the promo on Ray Scotts web site saying how the reel is very light and the huge spool size does wonders for reducing line tangles and blow ups when throwing lite lures. The reel does look sort...

Re: Who's been fishing with their new gear?

I have been fishing for the last 3 weeks with two new pieces of gear , a 9'6" Loomis GLX spin rod that was used but in great condition and a Bass Pro Johnny Morris spin reel that had been used twice and looked perfect but seemed to have a stickey retrieve that I think i've cured with some high tech ...
