Re: Swimbait Line Brand You Use

Samurai main line/P-Line CXX as leader material. I love and use it on everything except the Deps 250 and the 10" Triple Trout. It's nice to have that solid hookset at greater distances on a jig hook bait like the 68. It's real nice too if you go with the weedless 68 for pitching into places you norm...

Re: What should I pay more for the Rod or the Reel

I agree with the posters who say it depends on the technique. If sensitivity is the priority, I don't see how the rod is not the most important piece thus deserving a bigger portion of the budget.

Re: Low profile swimbait reel suggestions?

I just got the Daiwa Lexa 300HL and already upgraded it with the 3 missing bearings. Also opened it, cleaned and greased with ZPI F-0 Medium grease. It looks like a solid low pro reel, there's enough weight in the main gear and the handle shaft... I'll see how it does with the Deps 250 once I get t...

Re: Best scale....

I have a friend who has a Boga and he found out that he doesn't like the increments. I think it's something like 1/4 lb. increments  No way in hell could I ever accept such tolerances as a trophy hunter. I always wanted to to get a high end digital scale, the Brecknell Salter to be specific. ...

Re: 3:16 rising son weedless

Thanks thats interesting to hear.I would have never thought to throw this thing now. I understand, I used to be the same way. The week before I caught my first Largemouth on an 8" Hudd, I went into the shallows to film a vid for YT. What I startled out of the shallow brush caused my jaw to drop so ...

Don't wait too long, 50 deg is when I start to hammer the big girls on the rubber swimmers. Stay slow but small is not necessary.

Re: Low profile swimbait reel suggestions?

In my opinion the Lexa is the way to go. If for no other reason than because it's been out and having been used for this exact application for several years now with unanimously high praise (from what I can tell). I got the Lexa 300 when it first came out and it is my Deps 250 reel. No issues. I don...

Re: First time Glider

I don't think you are underpowered. I would def go w the MH Xtreme first though. I'm thinking that rod probably has a more moderate taper that is better suited for casting the gliders. One thing that can be frustrating about glide baits is their propensity to helicopter on the cast. This can wreak h...

Re: First time Glider

Looking to get my first glide bait is it worth it to spend the extra cash on the Megabass i Glide over the River2Sea S Waver? Also not a glide bait but was looking at the bucca bull shad in 5" slow sink. Looking for something I can still throw on regular tackle fishing in the northeast How much you...

Re: First time Glider

I stopped targeting smallies a few yrs. ago when I transitioned over to big bait fishing but I still continue to catch them on all of my big bait techniques. They are unavoidable in the lake I fish that has them but I've seen WAY more followers than committers on the gliders. I really think that a b...

Re: First time Glider

thanks for the input. I think I will get an s-waver 168 to start the year and grab the gan craft as long as I am not tangling with too many esox. Hopefully the smallies enjoy the glide! Oh they'll enjoy it! If nothing else, you will see some cool stuff. I fish a lake that's predominantly Smallies a...

Re: Rod specs for 6-8" paddle tails

All that 3:16 stuff sells out immediately, he has created a cult like following. I'm personally only interested in that big ass frog bait he sells, the No Bull. I've been tempted a couple of times to pull the trigger on an LDC but that wait time is mostly what kept me from doing it. I'd really like ...

Re: Rod specs for 6-8" paddle tails

Ok cool, so you have some working knowledge surrounding this style of fishing. The LDCs are supposed to be awesome so I'm sure you'll like that rod so much that you'll probably want another. I guess you can always go w a proven rod like the Okuma Guide Select. I bet the 7'-6" Med Hvy would handle a ...
