Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives
Awful tempting - a 3' rod for $30. Would make a nice stick to attach a cat toy. :big grin: What the hell are you going to do with a 3'rod? Stick it in the waterbottle pouch on my pack and take it hiking! A 3' rod will only stick ~1' above my head when stored that way, so it will be mostly safe from...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives
Man, getting into baitcasting reels by way of BFS is a no joke. The inexpensive rod I have been eyeing is the Daiwa Triforce Shorty. https://i.imgur.com/xTCef8x.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gK9FKSj.jpg The low end is only 1/8oz, but for it looks like a hoot of a rod. Right now Amazon has them for ~$30 bu...

Re: 2019 kistler z bones in stock
I have been kinda looking at the ML/MF casting rod, might make a cool BFS rod. I was also thinking about going to with Recoil Guides and a spiral wrap just to make sure that I can never sell it
But, built like I would want it turns it into a ~$600 rod, so I think I will remain "kinda looking".

Re: review of 2018 G. Loomis E6X
I would love to see a review of one of the new MBR rods. It seems like they are not offering the MBR taper in the IMX-Pro line and the price gulf between the new E6X and the GLX rods is pretty vast. The MBR taper are so great and if the E6X ones are up to snuff then they will be the perfect rod for ...

Re: Which reel for a 1/2oz swim jig + 5" swing impact fat trailer?
I have a sv103 w/ 1016sv spool on my FMJ and love it, it casts everything I have tried well.
I am curious, do you know the total weight of your 1/2jig+trailer? I have thrown a ~1oz glide bait on my FMJ but that is as high as I have pushed it.

We also recognize it's difficult to post photos sharing your passion for all things tackle and fishing on this forum. The bottom line is our servers are bursting at the seams and we're strategizing how to relieve this burden either by purging old content, or expanding storage - all of which takes t...

Re: Hot weather and Trout Magnets
Do you fish those things with a float or just the head and plastic? Because of the pickerel issues you mentioned I can never make myself go below 4-6lb mono, but have yet to find a rod that will cast just the head/plastic very well with such "heavy" line.

Re: Floating S-Waver?
I had one that would sit just under the surface and would very very slowly float up on the pause. But I believe Cal is correct, they are supposed to slow-sink.
They are great lures, but I would gladly pay a little more for better QC.

Re: GLX 842c new model applications
Give a light t-tig a try before you give up on the rod. Get a soft 6" worm like a Producto or a Fat Robo, rig it with a thin-wire 2/0 hook and like an 1/8oz sinker. If it's anything like the old style GLXs then I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Re: GLX 842c new model applications
Is there much difference in action between the new 842c and the old 782c? I recently picked up an old model mbr782 GLX and it is amazing for light t-rigged worms/heavy Neko rigs. I am also going to use it for small paddle tails in open water. I like a faster rod for jerkbaits which is what most peop...

Re: Pixy/Pixzilla still relevant...
I would up picking up a PX68L - and am a bit underwhelmed with 1/8 oz baits. Part of it is the rod I believe, I have it on a DX742 and I probably should be using a DX702 or lighter to really take advantage. Before buying another rod though I thought about trying a different spool, ie a DIY or Fines...

Re: Phenix Recon PHX-C682 and PHX-C712 differences
Compared to other bfs rods i have used the feather is more similar to the 6'6" XL legend inshore as far as power and taper go than it is say to the 6'5"L cronos, 6'4"L hyuga or 6'4"L super trickster. Those rods have a much faster and responsive tip than the feather but the feather seems to be a tou...

Re: Reel for XXX Black Themis
I have an Alphas finesse custom on mine and the stock spool will hold plenty of 7lb sniper, which is current line I'm trying on it. I think you're on the right track in thinking of it as more of a mag finesse rod, the action is quite fast and I don't find that it casts well at the low-end of its rat...

Re: Steez SV TW castability compared to Tat SV TW
I have a Steez sv tw that I bought because I was looking for a smaller-ish reel that was lighter then an sv103 to use for heavier lures then I want to use a sv105 for. I also picked up a Aldebaran 50 at the same time because I am a child who hates money. The Steeze is far nicer and easier to cast th...
