Re: Advice for a 1/2oz jig rod and some long-winded musings.
I ran a Destroyer FMJ for the last half of my season last year and it was mostly my dedicated 1/2oz jig rod but did frequently handle down to 3/8oz with no problems. It's got sensitivity. It's got power. And it balances nicely. I paired mine with an OG Zillion Type R. I don't have any personal exper...

Re: Bantam MGL Who has their hands on one?
Got my hands on one yesterday at the Shimano booth at our local sports show. I can see one in my future on my primary jig rod. Great ergos and very solid reel.

Re: Top water action.
One of the very popular metro lakes around here that is well known for producing big bags in tournaments and also happens to be one of the busier lakes is also very good for topwater fishing, just not at 3 in the afternoon when all the boat traffic is heaviest. I've found early mornings are best.

Re: A good day of bass fishing, what does it take?
On the northern MN lake I fish most often an average bite is about 5 fish/hr. A good bite on this lake is around 10/hr. And sometimes the topwater bite is so good I've had 2 guys put over 20 fish in the boat in less than 40 minutes or when you're on a nice piece of mid-lake structure on a hot, pre-f...

Re: Time to settle it once and for all.
Never had one bend a treble that I can recall but they are one of the toughest pound for pound that swims in freshwater and don't doubt there have been some bent treble hooks when fishing heavy rods and spectra.

Re: Sunglasses
Have 2 pairs of Maui Jims(Paradise and Longboards) and they have been excellent sunglasses going on 10 years with one pair and about 4 years for the other. My opinion is Maui Jim is one of the best in the game and their Evolution lenses are fantastic. I recently bought a pair of Kaenons(Lewi) and th...

Thanks for the quick link. What presentation are you using with your "new" zillion 7' M?

Re: Jigs VS Texas Rig...???
I fish the same lakes and ponds all year round and sometimes will try and fish a new lake/pond. I LOVE fishing shallow water and I am definitely a Flippin and Pitchin kind of guy. Because I flip and pitch so much...I ALWAYS bring a jig and texas rig combo. I always get bit on the same structure/cov...

Re: Thoughts on the new zillion rods
Thanks 21farms and E73bass! That's the info that I needed. I'm still not sure whether the MH or H will be the way to go but I'm leaning towards the H since it will be fishing 1/2 jig and trailer about 60% of the time, 3/8's around 35%, and 3/4 only around 5% when it's a very active, deep jig bite or...

Re: Thoughts on the new zillion rods
I'm very interested in what people have to say about the 2 heaviest 7 footers. The MH and H. I don't have any access to hold them until the local sports show at the Daiwa booth and need to know which one will work best for that 3/8-1/2 jig range with the occasional 3/4 oz. thrown into the mix. My gu...

Re: Favorite Or Greatest Bass Fisherman Of All Time
I've always dreamt of the coolness of having Al Lindner in my boat for a day on my "home" lake. A lake that I've been fishing for 35+ years and know like the back of my hand. I'd be curious what he'd say about it and what parts of the lake would be his favorites and why. It's a 1000 acre lake in nor...

Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
I love the few Daiwas I own but Shimano's overall line-up dominates. Better value in their low profile, better saltwater line(both spinning and conventional), and a wider variety for anything that swims fresh or salt. With that being said, Daiwa is a close second for me because the Zillion Type R an...

Re: Thoughts on the new zillion rods
How are the power and action ratings compared to older Zillions? It's weird that they're heavier considering the weights of the Tatula rods that people are posting. Aren't the new Zillion and Tatula similar blanks but with better components on the Zillion?

Re: For people who find Dobyns Rods Mediocre
I'll admit for years I was skeptical of the legitimacy of Dobyns rods as a major player in the Bass rod market. A few years went by and I ended up getting a Champion 765CB for deep cranking after looking at many different options. After that rod I was sold. I picked up a DX705C for a 3/8-3/4oz. jig ...
