Re: Spiral Wrap Guide Question

There are several ways to spiral wrap rods. From the extreme of having only one guide that is not on the 0° axis or the 180° axis, all the way to using four guides not on the 0° axis or the 180° axis. I have even see the first guide closest to the reel offset in the OPPOSITE direction of the spiral....

Re: RodGeeks CARBON 4 SERIES - C4711XHF

So...I need to back up. I have NOT used the XHF. Sorry, I misread. I have built on several of St. Croix's 711HMF. Those blanks go just over 1,000 grams in power. Absolute tank. I can't even imagine what the XHF would produce but its got to be crazy. The MB 809-1 went to 700 grams The SWB 807-1 went ...

Re: RodGeeks CARBON 4 SERIES - C4711XHF

I've built on the SCV version. As a punch rod The thing measured out over a thousand grams for power.

The 70HF was around 800 grams of power.

The only stuff I've ever measured with that kind of power are big swim bait blanks, muskie blanks, and saltwater blanks. Its a beast.

Re: MB663 (IM or HM)

Are you measuring butt diameter, tip size, and length to verify? Do you also have to load test to verify? I use the RDA measuring system. When I get power/action/weight numbers that don't jive with previous models I've measured, or don't make sense against the next model up or down, its a pretty su...

Re: MB663 (IM or HM)

but not sure if its a shelf blank from the xray or specific to Kistler. Kistler has many, if not all, proprietary blanks. Some of Kistler's blanks have no similar model in North Forks offering. I ordered and received a MB664 in the Delta series... I'm wondering if I received the wrong blank Unfortu...

Re: MB663 (IM or HM)

Personally, I use the 665. I've built on and measured the 661 all the way thru the 668. The 663 is very similar in power to St. Croix's 5S66MLF. As a matter of fact, one model I measured gave me the exact same power number as one of the 663's I measured. The MLF is much faster however. And quite a b...

Re: Point Blank frog rod

Looking for something in the 7’-7’2” range that’s on the moderate side of fast That blank doesn't exist. Nothing in the Point Blank lineup is on the moderate side of fast. Obviously, this is all subject to interpretation because "Fast" has no real definition. But, Point Blank, overall, has some of ...

Re: Cleaning rods and guides

Give your rod a coat of carnuba wax to help keep the grime from returning so quickly as well as making it easier to clean up next time. All my rods get a coat of wax before they ship. Ok cool! That sounds easy enough. Just apply to to rod and not the guides with a rag correct? It wouldn't hurt the ...

Re: Adding length to a rod

In my opinion, you're better off just getting another rod that suits your needs. If you don't think you can do the work, and need to pay to have it done, I think you're money ahead finding a different rod. Not to mention the loss of any warranty you may have by doing this work. Personally, adding th...

Re: NFC mb661 for crappies?

I did see that post, that’s why I was wondering if that blank would work. Right now I’m using a gloomis sr782 imx, I like the rod but was hoping for a blank that had a little more back bone. Sounds like I might have to put in another order to nfc. :D I measured the Loomis S782 at 150 grams. And the...

Re: Keys to building light and sensitive rods

As for guides I was thinking using the Fuji KW and KT going 7, 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 So from a your experienced view point, can you suggest a guide train for the builds and possibly a grip combo that follows your guidance. There is nothing wrong with your train. That should work just fine. Pers...
