Re: Light braid for casting?

I used 16# SX1 all year on a Core 50 and Curado 50. It worked great. I don't recall having any dig in issues. I used mono backing to save having to fill the spools with braid. Someone on here recommended using medical tape to prevent slipping. I have done that as well on some other reels.

Re: Help: Issues with leader knot

X2 on the finger savers. If I don't use them, I have problems. If I do, I haven't had any problems, including 10# braid to 20# floro.

Re: Favorite curado series? *poll*

I voted E as well. Never fished the D series. Still fishing the B's, but they seem outdated compared to the E's. Never got around to trying the G.

Re: Core finesse question

Well, I am not saying there isn't anything wrong with the Curado. The only variable as far as casting distances is the copy of each reel that I have. I have wondered if I just have a really good Core and/or a not so good Curado. The Curado seems to operate just fine, but it definitely doesn't cast a...

Re: Core finesse question

Well, it may be a little late if you have already made up your mind. But my experience with my Core 50 vs. my Curado 50 with ABEC 7 bearings and a Yumeya spool is that my stock, straight out of the box Core is a better caster. Not by much, but still better. I sadly have no experience with the D7.

Re: Favorite Mono & Size For Top Water Baits ?

I have used 30 and 40 braid, but mostly 30# braid. I have been using it for about three years and I wouldn't go back to mono or copoly for the application I am using it, fishing in the gulf. All my all my casts are maximum distance and there is a real chance of hooking something that can spool your ...

Re: Favorite Mono & Size For Top Water Baits ?

This whole year I fished 16# SX1 on my popper set up. I greatly preferred that line to using mono. For spook type lures, I use 15# copoly because I like the way it feels, totally subjective, despite a lot of memory. But, I do use 30# braid when I am fishing in the gulf. The braid is far easier to ca...

Re: Your favorite lure to catch fish on...

Well, I guess I am not unique because it is

1) spook

2) popper

3) shaky head, texas rig, etc. because sometimes it is fun to feel that tap tap tap

Thanks for that info. Fishing in a kayak can be tough on equipment. I was toying with the idea of Lews, but I may pass.

Re: Inshore Sinking Hardbaits

Might be a little too old school for you, but the Mirrolure 52M and associated lures are very effective inshore lures

Re: What line

Not sure that I can help. I use braid w/flouro leader. Minimum 20# test on the leader and some times as high as 50# if there bluefish around. The big reds seem to destroy the line if they suck the lure all the way down, which they seem to do. I lost too many lures using straight 12# mono. I don't us...
