Gave in and ordered the 1.4 m / 4' 7" casting version as well.

Re: Recommend a spinning rig for UL trout....under $180?
The Tsurinoya Elf Trout sounds like a good recommendation, coming from the owner of a Tenryu Rayz. That leaves about $100 for a reel. Going to be tough finding something light at that price point. Shimano NASCI and Daiwa Fuego run about a C-Note. Look for a shallow spool.

Re: Abu Garcia Eradicator 6' 7" Slow Taper Special.
Interesting rod. What type of fishing do you feel it is best suited for, Randy? Your usual twitching Trout Magnets on the bottom or something else?

Re: Short BFS rod
The $21, 1.25 m telescopic finally arrived after months in transit. Nice and short, like I was looking for. Perfect for underhand casts. Quick test casts showed it had no problems with 2 g and I think it can go lower. Reel is a Tsurinoya XF50 with their lighter Spirit Fox spool. Line is 4# Nanofil. ...

Re: Polyester line on bfs gear
Agreed ,last thing I want to do is go out with my super cool new JDM line and blow it up on the first cast. Cuss fest for the rest of the day after that... I use ester a lot but even on spinning gear its stiffness can cause it to launch coils of line off the end of the spool. With practice you lear...

Re: Polyester line on bfs gear
My hypothesis was that ester and BFS don’t play well together but never had the nerve to test it. Glad Chris did the experiment for us.

The bend looks very “Tetonish”. Plus glad to see Kuying has a YouTube channel. Good find.

Re: good pliers for smallest split rings?
Consider Xuron 496 pliers. The latest Texas Tackle pliers cant handle very small split rings. Here's a video on the two from just this year.

Re: Looking for recommandations for a UL trout rod
Giving this post a bump. Surprised no one has responded. I’m not much help as I usually focus on warm water species. That said, I’ve become a fan of Major Craft rods. Good value for JDM.

Re: Will the real 4# please stand up
Stroft make a wide range of lines, including (very expensive) FC and PE lines. Personally, I'd recommend Stroft ABR, still very high b/s to diameter, but with slightly more abrasion resistance which is often useful in UL. As a more general reflection, I think that the traditional UL / 4lb spinning ...

Darn you Hobie-Wan. You're trying to help Jukka decide and in the process I think you've sold me on the Ares!Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 8:06 amThe Ares is solid all through the blank. The 2 piece design connects at the reel seat. Basically, the whole blank is solid carbon

Re: Short BFS rod
Thanks for reply! Yep, you have turned me also to Ares, and yes, lightest baitcasting fishing is very nice hobby! But still I’m in the middle of should I bought Ares or Master, and I try to clear out this :-) I’m thinking if I buy Ares, would I still think I should bought Master. And if I’m going t...

rickman1, I like that your chart shows the measured breaking strength for the Yo-Zuri Hybrid as actually being 8.5#. More than double! I pity the fool who bought it unaware and wonders why he can't cast light lures very far or brags about the big bass he catches on UL line. https://i.postimg.cc/5y6v...

Re: Anyone having shipping issues ?
Got a Major Craft rod from Digitaka a few weeks ago and it was only about 4 days in shipping plus a couple more for them to process the order.
