Re: Who fishes wright & McGill skeet Reese rods?

The boater at my last club tournament. He cleaned my clock fishing Crawtubes on what I think is the Football Jig Rod. Maybe if I was throwing Crawtubes instead of Topwater when he got a couple of his best fish my clock wouldn't have been cleaned so good. Still later in the day when we were both thro...

St. Croix LTB SlopNFrog, Any Thoughts.

I broke one of my telescopic 7'3"MH Fast St. Croix Avid's that I like so much for hollow body frogs and buzz toads. They no longer make this model rod and I'm not sure what direction I want to go in terms of the replacement plan. I do have a LTB 7'3"MH Carolina Rig rod and though the specs are the s...

Re: Havoc Baits?

I've used the Grass Pig, Deuce, Pit Boss, Craw Fatty, and Devil Spear. I think they are all pretty good. I have a product review of the Deuce, Pit Boss, Craw Fatty, and Devil Spear at my blog.

Re: Favorite walk the dog type bait

The Repo Man has proven itself a winner. It's what I'll throw durning a tournament. One of my biggest this year was on a Repo Man. I need more time with the Gunfish, but it's certainly shown itself to be a great bait. Before the Repo Man it was a Stanley Phantom. I've caught a bunch of fish on the P...

Re: Popper rod......what rod?

Interesting that the Loomis 782 seems to get the nod. Maybe people are using smaller poppers than me as I use a a 783 IMX mostly with Berkley Frenzy Poppers. This year I added a 6'3" Croix Avid for jerkbaits, but it's a pretty good popper rod too. Just haven't used it for that much.

Re: Which is your favorite rod company?

I went with St. Croix. They are what I own the most of and I think there warranty policies are the deal clincher because I buy a lot of used rods.

I've never held a Dobyn's or a Powell.

Re: hollow body frog?

I've used various Snagproofs, River2Sea, Cabela's Brand, Boze Summo's, Mad Maxx, Scum Frog and Spro's. The only one's I didn't like are Cabela's and Boze. It's been several years since I bought the Boze, so they may make a better frog now.

Re: Favorite soft body frog (toad)?

I really like the Zoom HT, but I've caught some big bass on the Sizmic. The only other I've tried is the Ribbit and I thought they were good.

Re: Favorite Propbait

Prop baits are my most underused topwater. Caught the most fish on a Skitter Prop, wish they weighed more. Got some Buzzjet and Buzzjet Jr. last Fall and caught some fish on them. I plan on throwing those Buzzjets a lot this year.

Re: Favorite Popper

Berkley Frenzy Popper I got a question for people who love the MB Pop X. What is your tackle set up for throwing them? I bought a Pop X last year and the performance on my regular topwater popper gear was terrible. I threw it on a Gloomis 783C IMX with 14lb Fireline and a Shimano Crucial 6'8' medium...

Re: Working a Sammy????

Well that lake I went to was a new one and kind of a dud overall so I didn't learn anything. I only scratched out a few fish as it was, most out of heavy cover.

Re: Working a Sammy????

How good are you walking the sammy? I'd try spinning gear if you're having a hard time with casting. Mono line I find gives better action. You have to find that repetitive motion that gives it a good side to side action. Timing is very important here. I don't know that I've really figured out walki...
