Re: Abu Garcia WTF's
Man, I didn't reelize (pun intended) we had so many quality control engineers on this board. I started out on the round ABU 5000s and 5500s in the 70s and 80s, and became a Curado fanatic in the 90s. I've bought nothing but Shimano reels since then: CU 200Bs, CU 100Bs, 50MGs (five), original Metani...

Re: Quantum reels
this reel is a monster. Drag is dead on perfect click by click. Cast control is buttery smooth and the brakes are very consistant and predictable given lure weight. Likely going to buy a second one for my heavy rod! Casts go for miles, or i can thumb them down for quick flips under brush. Reel is s...

Re: Tdz 103h spool stuck
It takes some force to get the spool out from these reels.

Interesting spool... :-k https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F112809999688 This is a spool created by a baitcasting enthusiast known as F40 in fishing forums in Ukraine. There were several models (at least 7 AFAIK) of this spool - for TD-Z/Steez, TD Zilli...

Re: Abu Garcia WTF's
Had Revo MGXtreme2 briefly. Fished with it, inspected the quality of this reel and sold it. Paid around $200 for it and sold for the same price. Paying $300-$500 for this reel is beyond me.

I felt the same way when switching from VBS/SVS to SVS Infinity.

Re: Alphabrake - New Kind of Braking?
The reels will be manufactured in Asia and should be avalable for purchase within a year.
Here's the patented braking system:

Re: Alphabrake - New Kind of Braking?
I don't think that frame material and cost of knobs are important for a prototype. I wouldn't use expensive materials and Livre handle either just to test and show a new braking concept.

Alphabrake - New Kind of Braking?
Now that the zero bearings buzz has quieted down, it seems that from the country of the legendary Ambassadeurs there is a new kind of braking on the way. It's called the Alphabrake and the idea is to emit braking force only when the bait is not pulling the line. And there's no DC - it's purely mecha...

Had some noise with Chronarch CI4+ out of the box. Changing pinion bearing made it sound less noisy.

Re: School me on the topic of Shimano DC reels
The older model, with the red spool. It is silver two tone. I'd skip that one, it's a hit or miss reel. I've seen videos of it casting a Sammy 80 meters yet mine can't distance cast worth a damn. The new 2017 Scorpion DC is a winner though( I have both), it can do everthing. That reel could have be...
