Re: Braid+leader
I was speaking with a very well-respected local tackle store owner and tournament fisherman about this last year. He said that in theory, any fluoro is "good", but one labelled and produced as "leader material" is always a better choice. Mostly because the extrusion process is slower and more robust...

Re: kistler micro magnesium
I have 2 non micro Magnesium rods. They compare very well to other rods in the same price range IMHO. Kistler had quality control issues in the past with some blanks. They did not disclose these issues to the public until recently in a newletter written by Trey himself. If you get on Kistlers site ...

Re: What bearing upgrade(s) for Citica 201E?
ah_long: Good point. I wasn't necessarily interested in doing anything more than gaining casting distance and now that you mention it, the spool itself makes a difference as well. The trusty Citica is still good enough for the applications I use it for so I figure I'll leave it as-is. Call this "exp...

What bearing upgrade(s) for Citica 201E?
I have a Citica 201E that I have used only a handful of times since I got it last fall (due to winter and all that frozen fun). I was reading another thread and it mentioned the ability to upgrade the plastic "drive shaft bushing" with a bearing -- what is the exact bearing I need? I'm comfortable i...

Re: Tubes: Casting or Spinning??
Hey Biggs. For the past 2-3 years I was using a 6'6" MH Shimano Compre (fast action, spinning) and it was a great tube rod for 10-15' depths. However, the 6'6" length was a bit of a drawback when it came to deeper water or long line hooksets. This season I'm going with a 6'9" Kistler Magnesium "Fine...

Re: Frog rod reel
Last year: Pflueger President 6.3:1. Too slow.
This year: Curado 201DHSV. I like the size of this reel for frogs... no idea why, but it seems right to me!

Re: Veritas spinning rod guides???
I'm 99% sure that's normal for the Veritas spinning guides -- a local store had a few dozen various length and action spinning rods in the Veritas line, and they are ALL like that.

Re: Kistler Helium II LTX 7'6" Telescopic -- ??
Thanks man. I checked out the TT review but it was the rod with the non-recoil guides... not sure if it makes a big difference in weight or sensitivity but the review was overall positive (the only drawback being price, and that was definitely not the case with mine - $150 CAD + tax, brand new!). I ...

Kistler Helium II LTX 7'6" Telescopic -- ??
I picked one of these up today for a great deal (compared to retail price). It's a 2009 model, never used, with the REC Recoil guides. Is this a good rod in the 7'6" range? Caveat: Must be telescopic or shorten to 7'3" or less (like the Verdict does) as I can't fit anything longer than 7'3" in my ro...

Re: Abu Verdict
From what I've heard, the Abu Vertias and Verdicts are a shade stiffer than their rating. So a MH is closer to a H than a M. A Heavy is closer to an XH than a MH. As a result, I am getting the 7'6" MH-Fast Verdict for pitchin' jigs. I want the extra slight bit of give as I use 70# braid, and also, I...

Re: Abu Garcia Veritas an Vendetta rods ?
I fished extensively with the 7'3" Heavy Abu Vendetta last season. It was great. This year I'm going with a 7'6" Veritas or Verdict (probably the Verdict as it'll collapse into my basement rod storage easier). Abu rods fish well above their pricepoint and I love 'em for that! If you can, get the Ver...
