Re: Do You still Use Lures that You Bought, When You're a Kid?

I didn't buy them as a kid, but sort of claimed ownership of them from my father. There were some Rapala Floaters, Mepps Aglia Spinners, and a few feathered jigs. Back then it was still mostly a bait and wait rig of either bottom or on a bobber. I didn't really buy anything until I started...

Re: Bass fishing versatility: stubbornness vs confidence

I will pretty much catch more fish with soft plastics, but I much rather prefer to work hard baits or even metal lures. When I first started hard baits, of course it was the Rapala Floater minnow F7 size. That was the confidence lure until it became stubbornness. Had to expand. Don't even remember w...

I remembered another one, Heddon Spit n Image Jr. They discontinued Jr size, and it was a better bait than the slightly bigger one that they still sell.
I don't remember if the one I have is a Jr. or not. It's 2 1/2 inches and 1/4 oz.

Re: How Many Lures from One Company?

Years ago, I have one of the earlier model of Owner Rip'n Minnow 90mm and they discontinued that one and replaced it with a better updated version. The replacement one was much better in so many ways, but the old one still catches fish and a lot. It was some years later that I say the same body styl...

Re: How Many Lures from One Company?

I have to say that most of my lure buying actually comes from the discounted or discontinued models in the clearance bins. So with that I usually find Yo-Zuri, Heddon, Bomber, Rapala, Salmo, Rebel, Storm, Spro. Some obscure unknown name brands or limited production. Something like an Abu Garcia Torm...

Re: Sometimes, You Just Can't Win

That and the annoying missed strikes on the buzzbait. Where they hit the front or more so on the props rather than engulf the tail hook.

Also extending the tail hook. I put into it a chain of swivel and 0-rings. Sometimes that little extra 1/4 inch or so hooks up.

Re: Light Braid to Heavier Leader

Most of my rigs have 15-20# braids and typical leader of 20-30# mono. I do it that way just the leader always take the most damage and bigger typically lasts longer. Most of the time it's the terminal knot that will fail. A few times when I'm snaffu, it's the connection knot that fails or probably s...

Re: Honest opinions...is BFS really worth trying?

If you ever had to mount a baitcasting reel on a light power spinning rod, cuz that's the rod you need to get the job done. Then of course BFS is worth it. :big grin: I still bring the spinning reel for back up. Honestly I don't need a trigger handle. Maybe just an ergonomic knob on the bottom. In ...

Re: Was Braided Line a Game Changer for You?

Between Fireline Crystal and Fireline Smoke, not sure if color would make any effect on catch rate. It's just pure luck and chance. Because when I used to be a spinning guy, some days one of those set up will have a much higher catch rate vs the other one. There could've have any number of other thi...

Re: FG finish help

Not an expert in any means. I've rarely ever had my finish knot undone on me. However I tie up very small diameter lines, especially for ice fishing. So from: Diawa J-Braid x8 in 6# to 10# of listed diameter of .06mm to .15mm. YGK G-Soul Upgrade X-8 14# and 16# listed diameter of .131 to .153mm. Ber...

Re: Looking for Topwater Walking Bait Without Rattles

I had to dig up an old one. An old Yo Zuri Pop N Splash 75mm walking bait. It has no rattles. The Banana Boat has a single bearing rattle.
