Re: Daiwa SV103
[quote="Dink Dawg"]I got mine late today. For those that have shed a tear over the OG Zillion being dropped, shed no more. The reel is beautiful. The guys on the floor took turns spinning it and it was....let's just say, well received. I haven't spooled it up because I can't make up my mind what rod...

Re: Daiwa SV103
I did order one and it should be here any day. The dealer I use placed a direct order and had to meet the minimums so it was slow coming. I'm excited to get this model. I'll be happy to share my thoughts going forward.

Re: Dobyns light jig, finesse plastics rod
I have the DX 743HP (casting). Dobyns increased the power in the upper third of the blank on this series so with that said, the 742 would be the better choice in that weight rage and bait selection.
Re: SV 103?
Well I couldn't stand it and ordered one today. I have an OG Zillion and really like the platform. I have no experience with an SV model or the cast control system on the SV103 but feel confident it's going to be a top tier performer. We shall see.

Re: General rod quality ... Or the lack of :(
First, your post is not a rant. It's an observation and a statement of fact. The issue is quality control. Most on line retailers take it seriously to sell a quality product free from defect. If they don't they can expect to fail when the word gets out. Even worse is the possibility a Manufacture's ...

Re: Gear Ratio for 1/4 oz crankbaits
Smaller crankbaits don't generate much resistance so a mid ratio like a 6.4 works fine. You just missed out on the Lews Team Pro at 149.99 in LH at Tackle Warehouse. That would have been a very good choice.

Re: Dropshot Rod
Drop shot is just a technique where the weight is positioned below the hook. It can be a little as two inches and as much as three feet. The spectrum of weights, line sizes , hook sizes and bait sizes is generally dictated by each situation. I have fished for bottom fish such as ling cod in the ocea...

Re: No necessary in low gear ratio bc reels according to A-M
I watched the clip and it was informative. It does not change my view on my need for a low gear ratio option when fishing baits that have a high degree of resistance when retrieved.

Re: Reel impact on perception of rod sensitivty
Remember when reels had the foot made of chromed steel and were attached with two rivets? Remember when reel seats were aluminum and shimmed with tape or cork to fit the blank? Materials and design have progressively enhanced the feel over the decades. Certain lines transmit vibration better than ot...

Re: Weight or Balance..thoughts?
Thank you all. These responses are exactly why I generated the post. I purposely did not disclose that I only own one rod that is less than seven feet and the vast majority are actually over seven feet. Every tip up technique rod I fish is over seven feet. This info may have influenced some response...
