Gen1 STX
A few years ago I bought a used Gen 1 STX from another TT member and it was awesome and still is, however this past summer I noticed some issues with it. It wasn't casting nearly as well as it had been the last few years. So I tore it down and cleaned it. It was like new and once again great...........

Bare essentials
Being in college and not working year round I don't have a huge budget but I have narrowed down my rod selection to the bare essentials of what I believe I need. Only 3 rods: 1) 7' MH fast (casting), mainly for jig, worms, spinnerbaits, and any other larger lures but jigs being my preference thats w...

jig heads
I'm looking for a specific type of jig head and was hoping for some help here. I'm looking for a jig head that comes in 1/8 - 1/4 oz. sizes, has a 45 degree line tie that is in line with the hook, not bent perpendicular to the shank. Also the type of head is kind of up for discussion but a swimjig t...

Re: THE, Jig Rod
Maybe TT can do a high end BEST JIG ROD shoot out. (NOT a "Search for one rod") I would offer up that they INCLUDE: PHENIX K2 (production rod) Dobyns ZAYTA MegaBass Bearing Down (Nautilus) Evergreen Super Stallion ShimLoomis NRX St. Croix LegendXtreme Shimano Poison Glourious Daiwa Steez Kistler Z-...

Re: New reel for a new rod
So after some more consideration I've got it narrowed down to these reels: - Lew's BB-1 pro series speed spool - Daiwa Tatula......(not the type r) - Pflueger Patriarch (new one on TW) - Abu Garcia Revo ALT (top end of my $ range) - Lew's Super Duty Speed Spool - Lew's Tournament MG I know the list ...
T-wing
I know the T-wing is a new selling point for Daiwa and with both the T3 and the Tatula having this design I'm curious to see how soon it will be before other companies come out with their own version to try and match it. I personally haven't used one of the reels with the T-wing design but have hear...

Re: THE, Jig Rod
I am currently using a Powell 703C with a gen 1 Revo STX, however i am in the process of upgrading it. I currently have a 7' MH fast rod being built on a legend tournament blank which i really think will fit the bill perfectly, also i am leaning towards a Daiwa tatula to mount on it, im not 100% on ...

Re: New reel for a new rod
to be honest i don't want the super fast gear ratio. A 6:3:1 or something of that nature is perfect, thats what i've been using the last 3 or so years and its perfect so that super fast gear ratio really doesn't make a difference to me

Re: New reel for a new rod
The upgrades that the type r has include: a zion star drag, faster gear ratio option, lighter spool, Corrosion resistant bearings, and .3 oz lighter. There may be a few more minor things, but I think these are all of the major upgrades. I would say the type r is not worth the extra $50 unless you a...

Re: New reel for a new rod
are the upgrades from the tatula to the tatula type r worth it? can you really tell the difference when fishing it? i like $150, but $200 is very doable. The type r doesn't seem to have too many upgrades...

Re: New reel for a new rod
I have larger hands and can palm any reel i've ever personally owned for my bass fishing without a problem. Also i have handled all of the mentioned reels and they were all comfortable in my hand. I'm putting a ECSM Graphite Blank-Exposed Reel Seat from Fuji on it and the braking system doesn't make...

fishing from the bank, first time on the river, and only two small bites from smallies right on the shore at least an hour before on a spinnerbait. I tried a spinnerbait, tube, jerkbait, swimbait, and buzzbait with no looks whatsoever.

New reel for a new rod
I have a custom St. Croix 7' MH, fast rod being built right now on their Legend tournament blank mainly for jigs and the occasional frog, buzzbait, spinnerbait, and chatterbait. I have narrowed the search for a reel down to three main contenders, the Daiwa Tatula, Lew MG Speed Spool, and the Abu Gar...
