Re: Underwater Cameras Vs Fish Finders
Depth finder. Camera's are fun and a very good learning tool. But they are darn near impossible to fish with. Theres something about looking at that screen that really disjoins you from what you're doing elsewhere. My brother has a Z series Aqua View and it comes along every fishing trip. Its handy,...

Re: How tough/abrasion resistant is light Fireline?
Can't give you a difinitive answer to your question, just my observations... I don't use a leader the majority of the time. 4lb for Crappie, 6, 8 and 10 lb for Walleye, 6 thru 14 for Bass. During winter Lake Trout fishing we used to tie on leaders of Fireline to help prevent bite offs from Pike. Muc...

Re: Leader Material and Knot Tying
I fish Fireline on 90% of my spinning reels and where I feel a leader is going to help me out, I use Flourocarbon line. I buy the leader material from Cabela's. Made by Seaguar. I attach my two lines together with a Back to Back Uni knot.

Spiro
I agree with the others above...reel set up is the key. A secondary, but very important, key is a rod with a little softer tip. The more you can load your rod with those light offerings, they better your cast will be.

Re: Max casting distance for spin: Fast or Moderate Action?
The Spin Jig blanks from Shikari and Loomis are Ex-Fast actions. And actually are quite short. 6' and under. However I have an older model that is 6'3". But, I've been wanting to find another 6'3" model if possible, or steal the one I made for my wife, and build my handle on another blank section an...

Re: Max casting distance for spin: Fast or Moderate Action?
Now, let me throw another wrinkle in there. Most 'noodle' or long spin rods I've tried does indeed 'whip' and not recover very quickly. I believe this is due to: a. Their using relatively heavy and large ceramic guides - which slows down the recovery of the blank greatly. Hence, a 'whippiness'. b. ...

Re: Berkley Vanish Fourocarbon for spinning reel
I've heard they reformulated since I tried it.
I HATED it on a spinning reel. It was very unruly and hard to manage. I'm pretty good at sticking something out and giving it a fair try but this line didn't last long on my reel. It was over-the-top annoying.

Re: Rogue Rods.
I own one. I've built a few others for customers. Nice blanks. Great pricing. I've not found that Rogues are as sensitive and as high end as Legend Elite, IMX, SHX etc. But compete very well with Avid, GL3, SHIII and the like. My only complaint is that they pick the graphite composition for each ser...

Re: Max casting distance for spin: Fast or Moderate Action?
For rods shorter than what you're building I feel that a Moderate action is going to give better casting. More so on the 1/64th - 3/32nd kind of weights. A moderate action allows the rod to load much deeper into the blank and propel the lure further. On longer rods I tend to side with Fast actions. ...

Re: single or double-foot guides for rod?
Sounds like a casting rod. On my casting rods, even Muskie rods, I run a spiral wrap where the guides rotate around the blank to the underside. For the transition guides I use double foot guides. But for the running guides on the underside of the blank, single foot guides are all that's necessary. S...

I use Cabela's brand which is made by Seaguar. Been VERY happy with it. Happy enough that I threw what Vanish I had left away.

Re: Question about braid...
Most braided, and fused, lines are a bit stiff when first out of the package. They need to be broken in. After they become supple most of those problems go away. I've often thought of making a "training course" for my superlines. Screw a dozen eye bolts into the studs of my garage and under pressure...

At this time, no GLX blanks.
Although they are soon to released again to custom builders on a limited basis.
