Re: Loomis Rod Question
The TSR 791-S GLX is a nice rod, the SR 6010 is the perfect 5' ultralight rod (I've owned the IMX version in a one piece for almost 25 years). The Stradic Ci4 1000 will balance well with either of them.

Re: What new baits will you be tying on this year ?
I'll be trying more ultralight spoons this year. Shame we don't have the big white bass runs in the Savannah anymore.

Re: USDM 500-size reels
My current go to ultralight rig when fishing lakes, streams that hold bigger fish. The rod is rated for 2 to 6 pound line, 1/32 to 3/16 oz lures. I run 4 pound mono

Re: USDM 500-size reels
Actually, I have a TwinPower 1000 on my SJR 720 IMX and a Laguna 500 on my SJR 6400 IMX. Where I live, you never know when a decent bass will hit and the SJR rods do give you a bit of backbone for those moments. The 500 sized reel on the 6400 IMX is really a sweetly balanced combo and is wonderful ...

Re: USDM 500-size reels
I love the 720, I think I have three, but an ultralight it is not. It works great with a 1000 series reel and 4 or 6 lb line. When Mudhole came out with their MHX blanks they had models that were supposed to copy some Loomis blanks. The IMX SJ720 was one of them and I built two casting rods and one...

Re: USDM 500-size reels
I agree with your assessment. I don't think the 720 is a true UL rod and if the Soare 500 is the reel option considered due to weight and ul capability, why over power the rod. The SJR 720 IMX (4-8 lb) is more suited to tubes and light jigs for bass. But it does serve a purpose if a person is looki...

Re: USDM 500-size reels
Can't you put together a GLoomis SJR 720 IMX with a Shimano Soare 500S and keep it under $500? That would be a pretty sweet combo IMO. That would be a nice outfit, the SJR 720 is a hoss. Has a very fast tip and will control larger fish. I fished one for a few years with a Stradic 1000. My all time ...

Re: USDM 500-size reels
A 1000 size reel is a good size for a 6' rod. I'm not impressed with the 500 sized reels (other than the Shimano Soare 500S and you can grab one for about $270 USD shipped from Japan. Personally with a $500 dollar budget for the rod and reel I'd look to JDM reels. I like the Daiwa Luvias 1003. The s...

Re: Ever pull one out of retirement ?
Personally I like the new technology, especially the high end JDM trout area tackle. My 1025 Presso is smoother than any reel I own. The drag is superb and handles lines down to .004" with ease. I don't miss the old reels at all.

Re: Japan style trout spoons
The Lupin has a split ring to tie to, the Vega doesn't. I'd consider adding a split ring personally, the #2.5 and #3 Sunline is very small in diameter, .004" and .005" too small for me to see to tie with aging eyes unless I'm using magnification.

Re: Japan style trout spoons
I just got some Daiwa Lupin spoons in 1.8 gram, a Loomis TSR 681-2 w/ Shimano 2000SS casts them effortlessly. Very pleased with them.

Re: Ever pull one out of retirement ?
I've been fishing ultralight since the late 60's. I still have a Mitchell 409, a Fenwick 6 1/2' Ultralight glass, along with a Orvis 5' Glass Fullflex and Orvis 51A reel. I don't even have them spooled up and haven't used them in at least 25 years.

Adam I sent you a PM.
Finesse-Fishing.com has replacement single hooks (barbless) that should work for most any small lure.

Re: Japan style trout spoons
The Daiwa Presso Vegas (.8 gram) work really well for trout. Brook trout can't seem to stay away from the darker colors. There are a few streams restored to native brook trout fisheries that are prefect for the tiny spoons and super light presentation. Thank goodness they have barbless hooks, they a...

Re: Daiwa Iprimi rod and other thoughts.
I just bought the Iprimi 60XUL-4 too...I knew seeing it at that provided link was dangerous. :D 6', looks like a tube tip from the specs and weighs 2.3 oz.; will try the SS 700, but with 2# line would need to use backing; otherwise a Shimano 13 Nasci 500HG. Here's the Daiwa web page with the Iprimi...
