Re: Which fluorocarbon # size is more sensitive?
The size is not going to matter. If it's bigger, yes it will take more pounds to stretch it, but for sensitivity, we are talking about very low force. If you are chasing sensitivity, I'd look for a lower-stretch Fluoro, such as Spiderwire, (not ez, the other one), and the lightest rods and metal ree...

Re: An advantage of mono for buttom contact baits?
The problem with braid is, it's so low stretch (3%), it will pull hooks sometimes. This is less of a problem with mono or fluoro. The stretch range for mono is 16% - 33%. Some of crankbait pros have said they like mono because the stretch allows the bass to suck in the crankbait. They are right (and...

Re: Best Performing 2500-size Spinning Reel Under $200
If you can find a Abu Garcia Soron STX (20 size) grab it. A true beast. I've had mine for 5ish years and not 1 problem. It still feels just as good now as day 1. I don't know why Abu stopped making this reel. - They still make them... now it's called the Penn Conquer. It's hard enough to find spinn...

Re: Catches fish as good or better than a senko
My best bait used to be a texas-rigged Producto Lure Tournament worm. Now I use Senkos, 5" and 6" (off-brands, I'm cheap). I buy 100 - 300 at a time. Two main colors. I never wacky-rig them, it's always Texas or nose-hooked for me. Let them sink... sometimes one twitch while they sink... sometimes I...

You guys who like CXX should try Stren Brute strength... It's a clone of CXX but without the memory.

Re: Looking for new line
Different fluorocarbon lines have a wide range of stretch, just like monos do. I'm not sure going up in size will give you less stretch? - since it's thicker, it will probably be stiffer and have more drag in the water. I would try a different line. Spiderwire Ultimate will be one of the lowest stre...

Re: Straight shank hook or EWG for light line?
- O'Shaunessy and round-bend hooks have a more open gap and get more hookups than EWG's.
- But once you hook a fish, the EWG's hold better, because the point is aimed at the eye/pointed inward.
- Gamy dropshot hooks have the point aimed for easiest penetration.

Re: Trilene XL Reservations In Heavy Cover
I don't see a problem with using XL as your only mono. It's Berkley's first and original line... although it's been improved/updated many times over the years.

Re: line for senko
Has anyone found what they consider a happy medium between braid and fluorocarbon? Something not super stretch that still offers fair slack line sensitivity. - For myself, yes - Berkley Ironsilk... it's as low-stretch and sensitive as mono gets. I'll admit it's a far cry from fluoro as far as slack...

Re: The Future of The Anti-Reverse
There is a problem...with no anti-reverse switch, if your line ever gets tangled around the rotor, you might have to cut the line to free it. I'll admit, it's a rare occurrence... maybe it happens to me a handful of times a year at most? But if I were dunking my reel a lot, particularly in saltwater...

Re: a crazy experiment
that a white dust is deposited on your fingers. - I had an old bulk spool of Ande years ago that did this... the line was very weak. I think because it was stored on a open shelf, no box, the light may have deteriorated it. I'll never use a "powdery" line again. But like Bronzeye said, sometimes, l...

Berkley Ironsilk reintroduced 2014
This is my favorite mono, I'm glad to see they put it back on the market. It's as low stretch and sensitive as mono gets, with easy handling. I have seen a couple other super low stretch monos over the years, but they were stiffer (Such as Spiderwire Ultimate mono, P-line Evolution). Plus, this has ...

Re: Embarrassed that i even gotta ask.. Patriarch egg beater
- It's not recommended. I only use it for dragging worms or vertical jigging, I don't like casting the stuff. I use mono for casting.Mcyl wrote:I didn't know spin reels could use 12 pound FC! I thought only lighter lines were suitable for spin reels dude to line management.

Re: Embarrassed that i even gotta ask.. Patriarch egg beater
I have had a Pflueger Patriarch 9530 for 3 years now, and I use it for largemouth fishing 95% of the time. I have had a few minor issues with it. I've had several screws come loose... some Loctite fixed that. But I've had high end made in Japan Diawa's do the same thing, so I don't think I can fault...

Re: Flouro Light line, heavy line same knot?
I've been doing some research on the flouro lines and it seems like the stretchier the line the better the knot strength. - Well, sure... if a line stretches more, it delivers less force at the knot. This is an interesting question. I know that monos/copoymers .28mm and smaller diameter are process...
