Re: OG tatula vs New tatula rod

I liked the now discontinued Cronos better than the first generation Tatula rods as well. They did feel better overall in my hands. Smart choice going with the new Megabass Destroyer models too... they're fantastic =D> I actually looked at Daiwa’s site before I wrote this question, and there was no...

It seems that J Braid Grand separates much easier than J Braid. These were 6, 8, and 10 # labelled strength.
Well, that’s not good news...

Re: Color braid?

Thanks, ShimanoFan, for the excellent info on manufacturing the PE fibers that comprise our braided lines. I would say, based on some very cheap Chinese braids I picked up from A-zon to use as backing, that the braiding and QC of most name brand braids counts quite a bit in terms of the performance ...

Re: OG tatula vs New tatula rod

I'm a fan of the new Tatula rods. I think they are one of the best value rods on the market and are generally under rated. They are light, sensitive, and available in a lot of actions and powers. I like the overall feel of the rods better than the first generation models and those were nice rods to...

Re: Alternatives to my rod

I don’t know if I can help you or not, but can you explain why you’re anxious to stick with such a short rod? Is it because it’s easier to use in the yak? 6’3 is extremely short by current standards, and I’ve found no drawbacks to longer rods in terms of working even topwaters or jerkbaits (even in ...

Fireline Ultra 8 in Crystal color. I use it on many reels. Easy to see and excellent line.
Sufix 832 in ghost is pure white.

Re: What’s a good rod for spinnerbaits?

NOTE: I just realized these rods are no longer in the lineup, so you’d have to look at the used market.
The Megabass Orochi XX or Levante Spinnerbait Special is really exceptional. A 1oz bait is pushing it, but it works ok for short roll casts on baits that size. It’s perfect for 3/8-3/4oz baits.

All purpose spinning rod

Like most of you, I have all kinds of specialized spinning rods, from ML to MH in power and lengths from 6’3 to 7’6. Depending on where I’m fishing, where the fish are located, and whose boat I’m in, my rod assortment may be nearly all casting or predominantly spinning. When I’m in the situation tha...

Re: The Go To big T-rig / C-rig Rod

I’ve been really happy with the Dobyns Champion Extreme 784, the Mike Long jig rod, for rigs and jigs. It’s also versatile enough to throw an umbrella rig. It’s probably not as sensitive as some of the Megabass rods mentioned, and certainly not as sensitive as the NRX, but it’s still an excellent an...

Dobyns XP versus Megabass thoughts…

Maybe my subject line was too vague in my last post… I’m looking for two swim bait rods (unless one can do both). I seem to have narrowed it down to Megabass – either the new Leviathan or the equivalent in the Destroyer lineup – or a Dobyns champion XP, looking specifically at the 806 and 807 swim b...

Re: Debating between a couple frog rods

Since nobody seems to be commenting on anything other than the St. Croix, I’ll throw in another possibility. Take a look at the Tatula elite Ish Monroe frog rod. It’s certainly within your budget, and it has a lot going for it. I have a friend who fishes the zodias rods, and I think they are quite n...

Swimbait rods

Can anyone compare either iteration of the Orochi Leviathan with the Dobyns Champion XP 806SB and 807SB? Is the Orochi more of a treble hook rod, or will it handle 8-10” Huds as well?

Re: 50 or 60 lb Sunline FX2 Froggin' braid

I'd say 60 in general, especially if you're planning to use it as a main line for c-rigs: you'll want the thicker diameter when you're scraping it across rocks.

Re: Any disadvantages to O rings?

One guy told me that he does not use them because the O rings change the action of Senkos... Would appreciate your comments. Thanks. How is this even possible? A one mm wide, nearly weightless, flexible ring changes the action of a soft, heavy, five inch long plastic bait? Absurd. A person may not ...

Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

I love my Scott Radian 854. It has better feel than any fast rod I've ever thrown, works pretty well in close, and can turn around and throw the whole line. Also love the full wells grip. Rods I'm looking forward to adding that will probably eventually top my list: Epic Fastglass 686 and Burkheimer ...
