Re: Daiwa SV103 versus Shimano Chronarch MGL
If you're ever over to the Huntsville area before you decide let me know and you can try them both before you buy. They are both very nice very comparable reels and you'll be happy with either. I have the 7.9 sv103 and the 8.1mgl On the same rod (6'8" legend elite) and 10lb mono here's what I've fo...

Re: Should I sell my SV spools?
Sv spools are very controlled out of the box. Some have longer inductors than others and can be even more heavily braked. You can swap out the spring for a stronger one and it will wake the spool up. You can also swap inductors. I have no issues with distance on the 103 or 105. They both cast as fa...

Re: Reel choices
With #12 cxx on my sv103 I can damn near spool it to the knot 'maybe 15ft if line left' using a lipless crank. On my sv105 with #40 braid I can spool it down to the knot. If that's not enough distance for someone with a reel than I'm not sure what is. I'm thoroughly impressed with my two 103 reels....

Re: Daiwa SV103 versus Shimano Chronarch MGL
Bronzefly Just thought I asked If the SV 103 is discontinued why are you charging 299.99 for it ? Clearly you didn't notice the clearly written "sold out" listed on each model. Last time I checked though, folks are still allowed to charge what they like for items they have for sale. Yes you can cha...

Re: Reel choices
I am looking at 4 reels I was set on the SV 103 or the 105, but then I came across a post saying how the sv spools don't get much distance. Fishing without a boat I think distance is somewhat important. My other choice was the Zillion SV TW ,but if I buy another Daiwa it has to be made in Japan not...

Re: Daiwa SV103 versus Shimano Chronarch MGL
Or it could be that the reel has only been out a few weeks, and maybe hasn't reached the hands for testing? I'm a Daiwa fan. I own safew SV103 reels. They are amazing casters. The Chronarch MGL is also a very good casting reel. They are both very smooth. The only thing I don't care for is the non m...

Re: Should I sell my SV spools?
Yes, the braking profile of the SV is stronger than most at the end of the cast making you feel like you are losing distance, but I'm not losing much distance over other spools with my SV spool reels. I can only speak for the the Steez SV and SV103 reels that I own. Very few people fish in open wat...
