Re: History behind the low profile casting reel...

It would be difficult to make an old reel with all the new tech inside. We would be able to make it look like the old reel, but it would just be that, a look alike. The tolerances required for the Conquest run around +/- .0002" for proper gear alignment alone. You also need a rigid frame and side pl...

Re: Stella SW (2019) drag specs

Static weights are not what you want to use. Drag is measured with force, not weight. Think of your car brakes. You would not measure car braking force by how much weight they can hold or pick up. Newtons are used because they are a unit for force. We translate them to pounds or KG because most peop...

Re: Stella SW (2019) drag specs

All the drag numbers I have seen were manually measured on a calibrated force meter. If the drag is not reaching the spec then it needs to be sent in for warranty evaluation and repair. I doubt anyone is using a properly calibrated scale that has the calibration checked yearly. I have two at my desk...

Re: Spheros SWA 6K Question and Report

I can say that 99.9% of the time we do not measure shims in repair. We do all of it by feel. The gears in Spheros and the other larger SW reels have some slight gear feel to them because of the hardness of the gear materials used. It is normal to have a little gear feel. Even the Stella SW has some ...

Re: Stella SW 14000 XG (2019) servicing lubes

I use Wiha brand mostly. #1 Phillips, Torx T6, T9 and I think T8. I don't have a 14K in front of me to double check at the moment. You will need a #0 or #00 Phillips for the small screw that is internal for the rear protector. We use a .89mm hex to pull the rubber plug on the body to gain access to ...

Re: Stella SW 14000 XG (2019) servicing lubes

A little play in the spool shaft is normal. The newest model of the Stella has a special coating on the shaft which reduces the friction amongst some other changes. We call it Infinity Drive. It allows you to turn the handle easier when under a load. The shaft is supported by a bearing on the rotor ...

Re: Stella SW 14000 XG (2019) servicing lubes

The greases I listed are what we use when we service the Stella in the US. This was also coordinated with our QC engineer while he was here for 4 years. Many tests were completed and 20+ years of my experience went into formulating the best greases to use to provide the best performance and durabili...

Re: Stella SW 14000 XG (2019) servicing lubes

If you are not familiar with servicing the Stella I would strongly suggest sending it in for service. There are special tools needed to to remove the drag cover to service the drag washers. I can't remember if you need the special tool to remove the anti reverse bearing on the 14000 or not. Removing...

Re: A lot of discontinued parts on fishshop.shimano

Because of the part number change it is showing as discontinued. The new part numbers (5 digit global) are the correct numbers going forward. It's a long tedious process to change everything over. The gear itself is not discontinued. We are using up stock of the old part numbers if we still have the...

Re: Custom Reel Painting

I have painted three low profile reels. Two for friends and one for myself. It is time consuming because of all the tape work required and you have to take care to ensure part fitment of the pieces that attach to the frame. Typically a good quality clear coat will be thicker than the actual paint us...

Re: What happened to Aldebaran BFS 2022. Why Left and Right handle reels use the same contour star drag?

I just inspected the first batch we received and the stars are right and left versions. I can only assume the images were from pre production reels or just a mistake was made.

Re: Is the Shimano/Loomis Conquest line of rods being discontinued or refreshed?

There are no changes that I am aware of. I cannot comment on retailer stock. Typically they order heavy for the beginning of the season to sell through inventory. There are always backorders to contend with because the factory can only build so many rods per month. I can say that the reason they are...

Re: New Stradic Fm

The clutch button (aka Thumb Bar) was changed during production. The issues were isolated to the first production runs. It was an adhesive issue that was resolved and eliminated the adhesive and changed to a sonic welded design. We took care of every customer that had an issue. First we had replacem...
