Re: dobyns 805cbrm vs dobyns 765cb glass

Looks like I came in too late, but I was going to suggest you take a look at the 765CB GRAPHITE. I used to have the 805 and while it was light and whipped DD22's horrendous distances, I didn't deep crank nearly enough to keep the rod. After using the 764CBRM and the 705CB Glass I decided I liked the...

Re: Dobyns Lengths Question

I'm shore fishing most often and prefer longer rods. I use dx 743, 745 and 745, as well as the longer Dobyns cranking sticks. Biggest benefit to me is longer casts. I don't fish at ponds where i have to go bushwacking, and I found that if it's hard to cast from a spot, it's near impossible to set th...

Re: Rod for heavy pads

Here's what we have to punch through in the CA Delta... The "matted down" section in the middle of the pic is the mark we left after going for a fish stuck deep in the mat. How deep is the water under a mat like that? It's been a while since I took that pic but the depth in that area was about 6-8 ...

Re: Rod for heavy pads

We're punching hydrilla & pennywort on the Delta with the DX795. The hydrilla is definitely more manageable. I don't have any pics but if you've watched the TT Paycheck baits videos, there is some pennywort in them. It is pretty nasty. I'd say I'm punching about the same or heavier cover. I'm not g...

Which Dobyns Casting Rod for 1/8 shaky?

I just bought a Champion 702C for 1/8 shakyheads, but I don't feel the rod loads enough for the light jig and 6" roboworm. I like a longer rod, so I've been looking at the DX742C, but it has the same power (on paper) as the 702C. What I've noticed though, with the 7'3" Champs, is that the tips are a...

Re: 705CB glass Fast vs. MF

Thanks, and yes, that does help some. I usually fish from the back of my partner's boat so I need to bring as few rods as possible with me. But I still like to collect setups for when I finally get a boat. So you're saying that the 764CB RM could serve as a replacement for the 705CB Glass. I do like...

Re: 705CB glass Fast vs. MF

Your 705CB Glass FAST action rod is back to your #1 right? Im thinking the fast action taper will be a little bit better at ripping lipless baits. Yep. Meaning that for a time I liked the 705CB over the 705CB Glass. First rod I grab & most often used stick is the 705CB Glass (fast action). It is us...

Re: "new" Dobyns 765CB???

Any update on the 765, civic?

Looking for a cranking stick to complement my 705glass. Not sure if I want to go with the 765 glass, graphite or 805cbrm. Don't really deep crank in the delta or surrounding lakes, so I need something that could handle both mid and the occasional deep diver.
