Engetsu BB100PG

Does anybody have any experience with this reel? I understand it's designed for light baits/microjigging but it also states it has "high cranking power". I just recently acquired a Zodias 76-MHG for mid-depth/deep cranking and have since been looking for a reel for it. I'm leaning toward the Bantam ...

Re: 1/64oz Rod Recommendation

I agree if you are looking for an “area type” rod. These are typically short rods designed for small streams targeting tiny native trout. Casting distance is not a concern and actually detrimental at times. These rods tend to be on the fast side, but geared more towards small minnow jerkbaits or sp...

Re: 1/64oz Rod Recommendation

I usually only fish for trout once a year for our opening day here in PA and have used a St.Croix Triumph UL with few issues. I own several Megabass sticks for bass fishing and I feel the sensitivity is lacking in the St. Croix. The rod is very parabolic and I have a hard time detecting slack line ...

Re: 1/64oz Rod Recommendation

In that price range you might want to look at the Phenix Elixir series. They have a wide range of blanks and factory rods. More sensitive than the St. C. but not in the same league as the premium priced models. Warranty coverage from Phenix has been good so far. I think that might be the winner, ot...

Re: Mystery Jerkbait Help

Possible it could be the Nishine Lure Works Erie 115MD? They don't come stock with the bell weights but I know he does sell them separately!

Re: One ten special

I have mine paired with a Steez SV TW in gold trim and 7:1 gears, plus a little ZPI magic. It is a fantastic jerk bait rod, one of my favorites. Like Mark, I use mine for a lot more than jerk bait fishing, and yes even some light bottom contact stuff. It is a very versatile rod and a lot of fun to ...

Re: Best buzzbait

Another vote for Cavitron. However, for a "finesse" buzzbait, I really like the Picasso Buzz Saw Jr (1/8 oz). Caught a 6 lber and several in the 2 to 3 range since June with it. It gets on plane pretty quickly and can be crawled across the surface like a Cavitron. x2 for the Buzzsaw Jr- was amazed ...

Favorite EWG Flipping Hook

Switched over to the Trokar MagWorm this year and haven't had too many issues, a few cases where the hook went through and by the time I got the fish to the boat the hook just fell out. I'm guessing this is due to the larger hook point of the Trokar compared to other brands. What hooks do you guys p...

Re: Dobyns vs Megabass vs Shimano

I have the Gen 1 XX Tour Versatile and have a 7' M Expride and while they are different actions I feel the Megabass is more sensitive. I mainly use the Tour Versatile for Frogs/Flippin but it does work great as a jig stick and was designed for swimjigs so I dont see an issue throwing swimbaits with ...

Re: Looking for a short frog rod for medium to heavy cover

I use the XX Tour Versatile for Frogs/Light flippin and have had no issues. Another rod I would consider but might have a hard time locating is the F6-69XRC or the Aaron Martens "Frog Game Special" edition. I’ve been looking for a frog game special for about three months on and off I found the regu...

Re: Jig/Frog Rod for Bank Fishing

Depends on what size jigs you plan on using but consider the Megabass Tour Versatile or Power Versatile. I use it for frogs as I am not very tall and with you standing on the bank I feel like the shorter rod would help you work it better. Plus the shorter length will be easier to transport when bank...
