Re: Talk me off the ledge please
The XF-50 is a good solid reel and I also have the Dragon rod but in 5' and love the action and feel of it, I think you made a good choice on a budget minded combo. The Dragon rod came today and I also think it was the right call. It feels perfect. I like that it isn't a noodle rod yet is soft enou...

Re: XF50 workout ...
I have the reel, the carbontex washers and I picked up the handle to rough up the metal washer. I'm getting antsy, can;t wait to fish this on the Dragon.

Re: Trout spoon recommendations?
I like Smith JDM spoons but I'll admit at more than 6 bucks each I don't buy many. I did pick up 6 Countbass spoons and 8 Yapada spoons from Ali. Both brands have excellent finishes. The Yapadas are brass and have an Owner single hook......for like 1.75ea, you can't beat that. In all I got 14 spoons...

Re: Talk me off the ledge please
Your post was the straw that made me decide in favor of getting the reel. Again I don;t expect the XF50 to be in the realm of my Aldies but if it can cast the 1/8oz beetle spins consistently, it will be money well spent for me. I could always switch out another reel to do that if it can't and the XF...

Re: Talk me off the ledge please
I did in fact order the XF50L and for chucking beetle spins and light cranks, as long as it can actually do it, I think I'll be fine with it not being as refined as my Aldie's. I can't expect THAT for 55.00 + the cost of the carbontex washer upgrade, another 6.50. For a recreational outfit for occas...

Probably not the first point but most likely the second.mark poulson wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2016 3:00 amAt those prices, they must be using rejects from other reel manufacturing, and slave labor!
I hate to see us buy them, and support that kind of thing.

Re: Talk me off the ledge please
I am a complete tackle snob I think you know your answer. Get another Aldebaran BFS. That is sound advice if I was going specifically the BFS route. I purposely don't want to spend the money on another Aldebarran. I do have an older MG7 Aldebarran I could spruce up if the XF50 turns out to be a lem...

Re: Talk me off the ledge please
i bought a used xf50L off here for $30 to see what all the hype is about. And to my surprise its a solid reel. I tried 8lb fluoro with 1/8oz crappie jigs and it threw them fine. Surprised cause its like a 12-13 gram spool. I have so much bfs stuff i decided to spool it with 30lb braid and now its m...

Talk me off the ledge please
I was looking for a UL casting combo to chuck small beetle spins and cranks for bluegills here in FL. I wanted something lighter than my two Volkey/Aldabarran and Speedstyle/Aldabarran BFS outfits and I also didn't want to spend a fortune. I spent a few weeks looking around and pulled the trigger on...

Re: Heavy finesse jigs needed
Keitech makes their Mod II football head in 3pks that you can tie on. You said heavy, so the Tungsten will give you weight at less mass than lead. They feature small guards and hooks like the Ike jigs.

Re: (SUL) Super Ultra Light?
The UL Teton did not do too well with Trout Magnets in my experience. I was even using the lager Trout Slayers and the rod would not load very well for me. With the little float, it weighs in just a bit over 1/16oz: https://i.imgur.com/aY983Z1m.jpg?1 In general, I am not loving the Teton for micro ...
