Re: Non-Disengaging vs. Disengaging
This has always been my take on it. If it gets to the point that damage can occur to the reel due to line coming off the spool while not being syncronized with the level wind. Its time to educate your thumb and get rid of the levelwind altogether. If your fishing for fish that make long runs on heav...

Re: Good braid
FW Jerry Brown line one spectra solid 40lb in yellow Suffix performance braid 40lb Suffix has been my goto braid for quite some time for most applications. The biggest plus is that it cuts through vegetation beautifully. But I'm now starting to use JB due to it being quieter. I focus primarily at fi...

Re: Drop shot reels
My vote goes to using spinning gear. Been doing it for quite some time that way. A few years back I gave revolving spool reels a shot with d shotting. I found that with the right setup you can literally balance the rod on 1 finger and just bump the but end to shake the tip. But in general its much e...

Re: Braid to Fluro Knot
One more thing to add about the alberto. I like to lock the braid tag with a series of single, double, triple, double, half hitches (for spinning gear). And single, single double with baitcasters. Takes about another 30 seconds to do. And protects the knot Even further. ANd hangs less on the retriev...

Re: surf rods. IMX surf or st croix legend extreme?
Thats funny you mention the classics. When I first starting getting really into surf casting. My first venture into quality gear were the Team daiwa s series, and a few of the whities. The classics are great sticks. The blank isn't any modern marvel But it's still a good stick. I like slower action ...

Re: Pflueger Drive Gear failures
Just a quick question?? How do you lose teath on the main gear on a hookset. As the AR prevents quite a bit of the shock from hitting the gearing. And if it does the handle would spin backwards. 90% of the time I see mangled gearing (rounded off teeth smeared teeth, broken off teeth) is a result of ...

Re: Berkley NanoFil
Which do you like best? Hmmm... :-k I'm still getting comfortable with both, but the lighter the presentation the more I like the NanoFil. When fishing in weeds I like the 832. I certainly prefer the hi-vis color I'm using in the 832 to the white NanoFil. I'm not entirely confident in the knot stre...

If you are backlash or overrun prone. The line's strength would be drastically compromised after picking it out.
Much worse than what happens to braid.

Re: Shimano Reels Positives from ICAST
can't wait to get the new spinners (hopefully in the next few weeks) in the boat and see how they perform jigging and popping for bluefin tuna. With a bearing isolated mainshaft. More rigid frame. dual bearing supported pinion and worm gear. This reel could really shine for Tuna up to 100lbs. The sa...

I heard the samsung reel was going to be delayed due to an injunction posed on them by apple. Due to the reels handle looking to similar.mhood wrote:I'm gonna w8 on the Samsung...It has a USB port.

Re: Berkley NanoFil
Fishingelbow... are you insinuating anything other than similar diameters between these lines? oe No, just pointing out that Berkley's insistence on the small diameter of this "new, revolutionary" line ("this is the thinnest Berkley line yet") is a bit overblown. But then, when it comes to new prod...

Re: T3 mini review
I'm a little suprised by the reception the T3 and Ballistic are getting already. How about we actually fish the reels before we crown the greatrst thing since sliced bread? ](*,) This style of reel could be the next great thing when it comes to innovation or it could be an overhyped gimmick like th...

You know what? Zaion Air Rotor spinning reel is very weak. New Certate have rotor problem just to fight with 2-3 Kg. saltwater fish, the rotor start to crush with spool with a single fish run. I dont believe the Zaion topbar would held up long before braid start to rip their skin off. If they coat ...

Re: what reels is good for long distance casting
Any of those reels mentioned are fine. As no reel made will make your jaw drop when doing distance comparisons throwing spinnerbaits. My preference leans to a calcutta 200DC with the brake set at 1 or 2 and the spool tension set so the spool just barely has hair of lateral play. I prefer this to the...

Re: Pre-ICAST spy photo!!!
As far as what makes the Z so expensive. I'll probably have one sent to me or have a local shop call me up to come in and bust it apart and see what makes it tick. But I'll stick with my original assessment. IT AIN"T NOTHIN SPECIAL! have you fished with it? from the tone of your posts, i thin...
