Re: DX 742C vs. Phenix M1 MX74ML
I"m sorry, i don't own a 744ML, but I have a few M1s - a 72MH, 2x 72H, 78H, and a UMR800MH I wouldn't say the rods are lighter power than what they rate, but the tapers are slower and the tips are softer than what you might expect. The 744ML should be a great rod for the techniques and line class yo...

Re: phenix m1 swimbait rod broken reel seat
Yeah, not sure who you talked to, but he's probably overworked right now. Phenix was appearing at 3 shows simultaneously over the weekend spreading out the office and field staff team. CA, MN, and FL. Usually these issues are handled quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Re: Phenix at ICast
Phenix was at the International Sportsman's Expo in Northern CA this weekend. The word there was they were hoping within 3-4 weeks. They were incorporating all the feedback from anglers regarding the handle/design, as well as waiting on the new guides.

Re: phenix m1 swimbait rod broken reel seat
Phenix will take care of you. This issue has happened to a few folks. Not sure if it's over tightening or just reel seat defect. The problem is fixed in the latest run of M1 Swimmers. The reel seats look completely different than the ones i have.

Aldebaran 50Mg7, K2 765c... I'd say it's in the low 9s... I'll weigh them tonight.

Re: Drop Shot Rod Recommendations
Are you a die-hard Loomis guy? I was out at a local reservoir yesterday. Dropshotted a 4+ smallmouth and a 3+ Spot with a Phenix UMBX700L and Sustain 2500FG. Awesome combo. It's a little on the light side, which i like. The UMBX700M is a more versatile rod for sure. My buddy has an NRX SHY822s It's ...

I have a 300 i use in the salt, it's been solid. A 100 may not hold enough line. Consider the 300 size. It casts great.

I use a Phenix M1 72MH and 30-40lb braid. Never had a problem. Had more problems using a glass rod.

Phenix UMBX 707H. Love it. I would get the classic. The burlwood accents are nice.

Re: phenix recon 2 vs m1
I've got Recon 2 683, 713, 744, 764, 796 and M1 72mh, 72h, 80URMH.
The recons are more sensitive and have what i think is a faster taper. The M1's for me have a slower taper, more parabolic.
Both are lightweight.

Re: Rod to pair with Stradic Ci4 2500...
What about a custom? I paired my stradic 2500 CI4 with a Phenix UMBX 700M, factory built. A custom with a black foam/hypalon handle and red metallic thread inlays would look nice.REd anodized winding checks?

Re: Longer Rod Recommendations
As another poster mentioned, the Phenix Rods are sweet. In addition to the UMBX and M1, I also like the Recons. 795 is my favorite punch stick. Like the 715 for jigs. I use the UMBX for fishing plastics - senkos, t-rigs. 707H is a great rod. If you are looking for a power stick, the 703XH is mean.

I'd go for it. That's an awesome combo. I've got a couple 80MH M1 Swimmers... LOVE THEM. Been throwing Umbrella rigs, S-Wavers, Hudd 68s, and 8" and smaller Triple Trouts. The 80H should be able to handle the 8" Hudds no problem.

Re: What makes a good jig rod
Depends on your situation. I fish a wide range of conditions and bodies of water here in Northern CA. Deep Canyon Lakes with gin clear water to the shallow weed and reed infested Delta and Clear Lake. My go-to jig rod is the Phenix UMBX Classic 700H. soft tip, but loads of backbone. I'll fish anywhe...
