Re: Nrx 853c?
I use my 853C for 5” Senkos, 1/4oz trigs, 1/4oz shakey heads, up to 3/8oz jigs in open water, etc. It does these things so well I see no need for an 893. Balance is good enough as is with a 13 Met, whereas the 893 would likely need some weight added to the butt similar to what my 873 requires. For m...

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
Still using it in 16, 18, and 30lb. No issues yet, although the light green color lines are fading. No fading at all with the dark green 30lb so far.

Re: Chronarch MGL interesting story
I noticed a lack of smoothness in several of my Chronarch MGL’s even after a good clean & lube. I replaced both pinion bearings and presto, they are now just as smooth as my Mets, and almost as smooth as my Chronarch D’s.

Re: Medium Light to Medium casting rods. Whats your go to??
Nrx 852c is a special special rod Mine wears a Core 51 with an Avail spool and Hedgehog Air bearings, spooled with 16lb Sunline Xplasma Asegai. Casts 1/8oz (plus plastic) shakey heads well, throws 3/16oz shakeys into the next area code. The 852c is x-fast, if you prefer a slower tip, the GLX 842C M...

Re: Chronarch MGL Pawl Production Change?
Bantam, thank you for your response! And since I also use some of these reels in saltwater (with “G” spools), a plastic pawl sounds good to me. One less part that can corrode.

Chronarch MGL Pawl Production Change?
I own 3 Chronarch MGL 151HG’s purchased at different times over the last 2 years. While performing clean & lube maintenance I discovered that the first one I purchased has a metal line guide pawl, whereas the 2 newer reels have what appears to be a ceramic pawl. Is this the result of a production ch...

Re: Gear ratio: 8 VS 7?
When I first started using my 13 Met XG I noticed it’s loss of torque relative to other 7.x reels I was using at the time. Increased resistance while retrieving baits, etc. I thought it would be OK until a battle with a 5lb Lanier spot showed me otherwise! Swapping out those 8.5:1 gears for 7.4:1 ma...

Re: What is your prefered reel for jerkbaits
Using Chronarch MGL HGs spooled with 11, 13, and 15lb Armilo. The 7.1 ratio is fast enough to pick up the slack, but not so fast they can’t be used with Spinnerbaits and squarebills. I switch out the spools for “G” spools loaded with braid and use them in the salt.

Re: High quality oil, lube, etc
ZPI Friction Zero grease Medium on gears, so far it’s doing a superior job protecting my aluminum MicroModule gears, use the Light version on worms & other internals. Hedgehog Alchemy Medium Light for spool bearings. TSI 321 for spool and “SuperFree” bearings used in saltwater.

Re: Water Absorption
Exactly! Water will penetrate into the weave with all braids. Even braids which are billed as hydrophobic will absorb some water after a couple of hours of steady use. It is barely noticeable with 20lb and under, but becomes more noticeable the heavier you go. Try using Sufix 832 in 30lbs & up on a ...

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
Got a chance to use the 18lb with 3/8 oz jigs, and the 16lb with 3/16 oz shakey heads this week. Very pleased with these lines, definite improvement over the 10, 15, and 20lb yellow 832 lines I was using. None of that sticky coating, and the light green color stays on the line and is just as visible...

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
Got a chance to try the 30lb yesterday. No fade, and it definitely carries less water back to the reel than the 30lb 832 I was using. Compared to the 16lb, the 30lb is not quite as stiff & wiry, and has a different texture, closer to that of “normal” braid. I was only able to spool 70 yds onto a ‘13...

David, was that with the aluminum or brass main gear?DavidSA wrote:
My last cleaning showed several teeth torn off my 13Met gear. Tuner thought it was because of braid. Reels are smooth but I know I have 2 gears to replace at next annual full cleaning.
