Re: THE, Jig Rod
I am a huge fan of the Dobyns DX745 for jigs and t-rigs in the 1/4oz - 7/8oz range (plus plastic). Very versatile, extremely sensitive, and although the tip is limber, the backbone WILL surprise you and WILL pull big fish out of nasty cover in a hurry. I use mine with a Curado 201E, 55# Daiwa Samura...

Re: Abu Garcia Verdict Handle
Had one (7'3" MH... fished more like a H or XH to be honest). It was 'ok' at best. For that price I'd highly recommend a 13 Fishing Omen Black -- much better rod. Sensitivity is leaps and bounds better than the Abu. With the Verdict, they measure with handle extended. Which is great, because, my han...

Re: How to Drop Shot
I use a heavier rod than most for my DS duties, mostly because A: I don't DS much, and B: I tend to DS in vegetation (power-shotting) about 75% of the time. Kistler magnesium 6'9" MH "Finesse Special" spinning rod. (Tip heavy but great action) Pflueger Supreme XT reel 30# Daiwa Samurai Braid, 8# P-L...

Re: Sweet Beaver
Depends on the forage in the lake, but I have three favourite colours for R.I. beavers: - Penetration/Hematoma -- dark water or overcast days, even in clear lakes. - Big Texan -- for clear water and sunny days, in lakes that the fish relate to browns or oranges. - Sprayed Grass -- for gin clear wate...

Re: Omen reel seat
I actually like the Omen Black seats more than any Fuji seat I've tried/own, and definitely 100000x more than any Abu seat I've used. The hair trigger is perfect. I have large hands and long fingers and the 'skinny' cork doesn't bother me at all. It's extremely comfortable even when pitching 9 strai...

Re: DX745C -vs- DX784C
I've been using my DX745C (SH) a lot recently as well. I go as low as 1/4oz+plastic, and as high as about 3/4oz plus plastic (double-wide beaver). It's a perfect rod for pitching this range, and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat for your desired applications.

Re: How do you choose what rod action you want?
I have the 7'1" MH Omen Black. It's a VERY versatile rod for what you want to do. I think you're better off with the MH instead of the M power for bussbaits, spinnerbaits, and any plastics in weeds. It's probably my favourite rod right now (and I own two top-end Dobyns Champion Extremes). With regar...

Re: Who makes the best reel seat for a casting rod?
ECS is great.
But for something a bit different and to me, even MORE comfortable, the Evolve hair-trigger on the 13 Fishing "Omen Black" rods is stellar. I have large hands and this seat feels unbelievably comfortable even after 8 solid hours with the same rod in my hand!

Re: Need t-rig rod sub $200. Suggestions?
I didn't see them there, maybe they haven't arrived yet or you bought them all. Is that where you got your 13's?? Sucks that it wasn't a great place, biggs, but we're a BIT spoiled with Paddletales being close enough to Ottawa to keep the entire eastern half of the country happy. It was a nice shop...

North Bay Outfitters.
Just happened to see it on the www.13fishing.com site last week and remembered it. Only CDN retailer, so far.

Re: Need t-rig rod sub $200. Suggestions?
I'm almost as far east in Ontario as one can get (Ottawa). Hehehe. Only the one retailer in Canada has them, and they're in North Bay. I didn't care much about the warranty although if I have a problem, I have the rep's number and can also get across into the USA in 30 minutes from my house to mail ...

Re: Dobyns Champion Extreme
I don't have experience with the Diawa line of rods, but have some experience with the DX line of Dobyns. They're very crisp, extremely well balanced, and at the tops of the sensivity scale in my hands (and many others here). For that weight of lure and cover, I'd suggest the DX704C. DX704C 7′ 1pc. ...

Re: Need t-rig rod sub $200. Suggestions?
After much research and searching tackletour, and a few phone calls, I managed to find TWO 13 Fishing Omen Black rods on sale within an hours' drive. I bought two of them for $165! :) 7'1" MH Omen Black, to replace the broken 7'3" Verdict. Good upgrade it seems. This one is for 1/4-1/2oz t-rigs and ...

Re: Need t-rig rod sub $200. Suggestions?
ALso, if I were interested in saving a few more bucks, what's the general concensus on the 13 Fishing Omen Black rods? The 7'1" MH or the 7'3" MH look nice price-wise and the review on tackletour was "Great" (8.33/10).
