African Gold
Well why you guys up north are happy some of the water isn't hard us down here are struggling through a hot sticky summer. It's not all bad though, here's some warm weather fishing to cheer you up. I was up at big inter-basin transfer + hydro scheme reservoir (about 200 miles inland from Durban, Sou...

Re: Deep UL baits
OSP do a great series of UL deep divers - http://www.ichibantackle.com/showproductdetail.asp?productid=1493&name=DUNK%2048&manufacturename=O.S.P - I've used them a little for European perch - body is 2", they suspend (although they also make a floater), cast very well due to the shifting weight syst...

Re: Loomis SR841-2 question
I've also got an IMX 842-2, the taper is moderately fast and ideal for throwing and fishing spinners and small plugs, with 3/16th the sweetest casting weight. IMO, isn't brilliant for fishing jigs/grubs, the tip is a little too soft and you feel a little out of touch, even with superlines. I assume ...

Re: Ultralight Pike
Thanks for that. I'll have a chat with my local halibut and maggot vendor. You may not believe this but I am going to go to the dark side - I've had this thing about using some of these cool JDM swimbaits (Mikey, Real California etc) on my local pike. I reckon there are some 20's around and its goin...

Re: Ultralight Pike
Hi Simon
Thanks for the measures - I assume the Drennan wire works well? I've only used the Fox stuff but would like to use slightly thinner material.
I was wondering where you got those little snaps, they look perfect, the ones I am using are prone to pick up weed.
Regards
Rolfe

Re: Ultralight Pike
Lukas, the trace weights practically nothing, I meant that if your Lucky Craft suspends and if you add the trace's weight, even though it is probably only 1-2gram, it disturbs the floating/sinking balance on a suspending lure. By suspending I mean when the lure dives down, it doesn't float up or sin...

Re: Ultralight Pike
Hi House of Hardy I use around 20-25cm of light braided wire, a small snap and the smallest swivel I can find. Just wrap it around itself 8-10 times and off you go. I do advise you run some superglue over the wraps to prevent unravelling under big pressure. I am only using light tackle though, so if...

Re: Ultralight Pike
Shortlite - re wire I agree, I have chanced my arm twice, the fish pictured and early in the autumn I got among some perch and took a chance with a small 1/8th grub and it was literally removed within 3 casts. It is a pain fishing finesse jigs with wire but in my neck of the woods the jacks are as t...

Re: PERCH TALK
Hi The fish pictured above are all the Euro model. They run to about 6 lb but anything over 3 is really a trophy IMO. The overall looks are similar to yellow perch but the yellow has more stripes and seems to be slightly longer and thinner. There is a good picture of a yellow perch posted by Ranger ...

Re: Ultralight Pike
I have been surprised how small a lure pike will bother to eat! I got this 30" pike on the Bedfordshire Ouse on a Keitech finesse jig and pig (1/8th oz) in green pumpkin colour! Lure looks like a crayfish and is only 3" long. I was working it on the bottom and felt this tap - set the hook and knew i...

Re: PERCH TALK
Hi Leicster Elite I'm a South African now living in Beds and I really enjoy lure fishing for perch - they are my new favourite fish. Beginning in the summer, I put together a lure system based on my 25 odd years experience of largemouth bass fishing. The English approach seems to be based around spi...
