Re: Nice leader knot
Agree with you guys, am always in search of a better braid to leader knot and this FG knot seems like the deal. I'm going to tie up a couple rods and fish this weekend hard and report back results, with the disclaimer I am no expert at tying it. But I think tying it at home will make sure I get perf...

Re: Opinions on a new DS rod
If I remember correctly, AM used his XX dropshot rod to almost win the Bassmaster event over here on LSC last year, the one Chris Lane won fishing Lake Huron. Aaron boated numerous big smallies dropshotting out on Point Pelee using that rod so I am sure it can handle whatever you need. I'm sure the ...

Re: Falcon Lowrider fans?
For a US made rod in that price range, they are the best bass rods out there IMO. Not the most sensitive blanks but Falcon has great rod designs (actions). Make sure you get yourself the Finesse jig rod, Head Turner, and Amistad and some braid/fluoro leader and you are covered for everything largemo...

Re: edge first strike update
Just received my rod not more that 20 minutes ago. It was a nice post dinner surprise. Except for the fact that I cannot pass the line through the third guide from the top. It is completely covered in epoxy. IMG_2014121649746.jpg Additionally, I ordered the 703 casting 1/4-5/8 Oz. Medium light. Now...

Re: St. Croix Legend Elite vs. Megabass Orochi XX
This doesn't answer your exact query since I don't own a XX but I do fish Legend Extreme a lot. And a 13 Fishing stick. If I were you, I would make your decision between the MB XX and 13 Envy black. Their price points and country of origin (build) are more apples to apples. The Legend Extreme is USA...

Re: Need help finding another frog rod
I don't throw frogs (yet) but pitch plastics and I think the Falcon Amistad would be a great choice based on what you're looking for in a rod. It's 7'3" rated H but the tip is soft enough. There's also Falcon's Jason Christie frog rod but I've never fished that one and it's 6'11" which is shorter th...

Re: Omen Black and Fenwick Aetos
I bought an Omen Black spinning rod this Spring and was not prepared for how sweet it would feel in my hands. I usually fish for smallmouth on Lake St. Clair using dropshot and finesse. As a comparison, I have a Legend Extreme MLF spin, Techna AV med fast spin, GLX MBR782, Crucial MXF dropshot, as w...

Re: For people who find Dobyns Rods Mediocre
To the OP, Don't sweat the small stuff! I'll admit I've never fished with a Dobyns rod but I am sure they are nice rods. Remember that these are all simply each person's opinion and everyone has a different one. I would wager that we each can find something to dislike about each and every rod we own...

Re: Anybody make any regretful purchases?
Every G.Loomis rod I've tried. You can find rods half the price, with better sensitivity and better components. Agree with you 100% on the factory rods. But custom builds on their IMX and GLX blanks can come close to some others. We're basically paying a premium based on their name and past history.

Re: Anybody make any regretful purchases?
Like most others, I've made way too many regretful purchases. Who doesn't have unused rods lying around that they know they'll not use any more? :) I myself have owned or own almost all domestic rods at one point, Loomis, St Croix, Fenwick, Phenix, Falcon, Lamiglas, Berkley, Abu, Daiwa, etc. and eve...
