Re: I ain't one to gossip - Jackson Rods!!!

JD, the Loomis 721 is a favorite of mine. I really thought it would be my preferred rod over the Trickster. I was surprised that side by side the 721 seemed almost( but not really) sluggish in action. I think it would be the better small crank bait rod of the 2. Also I am an old codger who likes fu...

Re: I ain't one to gossip - Jackson Rods!!!

I've got the Jackson Super Trickster 63ML rod from Gary and have a Pixy Airy Red on it with Tatsu FC 6 lb on it. I have to say I really love this rod!! Sweet spot in casting is between 1/8 and 1/4 oz. For comparison I had several combos on deck: Megabass 5'5" Egly Go Go paired with tuned Orange Pix...

Re: Sell Core for Aldebaran?

The right-side spool bearing is mounted on the spool shaft with the spring compressed between the spool wall and the bearing. The bearing is captured by the cross-pin in the shaft and a nylon spacer. I had to remove the pin to install a Boca bearing. Do you need spool pin pliers or a special tool t...

Re: Help me pick a BFS Combo

The Brenious is a fantastic little reel that works very well with light braid. Shallow, narrow spool and a faster than normal level wind ensure light braid will not dig in. I use 20lb because I often tangle with over slot Reds while throwing the Brenious. 10lb would work great on it for sand trout a...

Re: Help me pick a BFS Combo

I am not familiar with any of the rods you have selected but I have been using my Brenious over the late Fall and Winter with great results. I'm throwing 4" plastics with mine and running 20lb Sufix 832 Braid. I can almost spool it at times, but I have had no problems catching big Specks and Reds on...

Re: It Was a Megabass Kind of Day

BigG, I always appreciate your kind words. Here is another nice Red that I caught in 1 foot of 51 degree water last month. She pulled like a freight train. I was using my Shading-X and she stretched the Boga to 12.5 lbs. I caught a few more that were just slightly lighter in weight and had one come ...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Jeff! That is an awesome catch! Your 842 and Chronarch combo have handled some monsters. That is a BULL for sure and just goes to show that bruiser fish can be caught on light gear in the right hands. Congrats! =D>

Re: Megabass Evoluzion C40 Themis

I own the Themis and the Super Eiger. The Themis is about 1 -1.5 powers lighter than the Super Eiger. It also has a much softer tip than the Super Eiger. I like really light powered rods and the Themis is about as light as I like to fish. If you are looking at a rod that slots nicely in between thes...

Re: It Was a Megabass Kind of Day

Jeff, The Evo rods and the X7 rods are addictive and suit my fishing style very well. I wish I could have hooked a brute like you recently caught to really test out the new Themis. Hope things are going well for you!
