Re: "Borrowed" ideas
Bearing quality has a lot to do with the cost. The design of the frame and gear shape allowed them to use a bushing and still maintain good gear alignment and durability. Shimano has been using bushings in this location on several different models over the years with excellent results. A reel doesn...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas
We may not always be first to do something, but you can believe that we will do it better ;) Bantam, can you explain to me why in my stradic reel I find only one ball bearing on the left side of the main drive gear, while on the other side I find a plastic bushing? Why are there not two ball bearin...

Re: GIANT but not a bass.....lol 2010
No one says you have to keep a fish on the run. Eventually they do settle down. He could have kept that fish hooked all night long and resumed reeling it in in the morning if he wanted to, but as I understood it, he waited until the state officials arrived on scene right after sundown to verify the ...

Re: GIANT but not a bass.....lol 2010
Cool story! Glad you recovered the photos! We had a similar story happen here in Florida about a decade ago out on Lake Howell. Some guy was fishing for bass using a rattle trap and somehow hooked up with a large fish he was not able to bring up to the surface right away. He thought he was hooked in...

Re: Favorite Or Greatest Bass Fisherman Of All Time
I am kind of surprised Denny Brauer has not been mentioned more than he has. To me, Denny Brauer is my number one greatest bass fisherman of all time- favorite too. KVD is second to Denny on my list. Denny has something extra- a sixth sense if you will. Denny can pick a spot and say I know there's o...

Re: Tackle Tour Dot Com
To me, this site started off as a great review site and I think that's what the foundation of it was. The DARK side was just extra. I feel like it used to be more about technical stuff, but now its about aesthetics and color matching this or that. It's sort of like the car scene now. Some guys like...

Re: micro guide filled with epoxy...
I would not use a heat gun nor a drill bit, nor a knife. A hair drier might be a good idea though to soften the epoxy up some. I had a similar problem and I used a plastic pointed object- making sure that what I used to push through the guide was softer than the guide to prevent any damage to the gu...

Re: Four-Way Handle???
I was actually thinking of bright neon glow in the dark yellow.
This 4-way handle has given me a new idea for my competition "decorator" rod and reel handle for next year's fishing trip with some friends down in the keys. 12" in diameter and 16 knobs and 3 speeds or more is the game plan so far.

And what ever it is, it can be yours for $25!
I wouldn't buy this thing with your money!
I was just hoping someone might identify it! And if they do, now we know who had one!

Re: Four-Way Handle???
A lot over done? I'm just not getting the reasoning behind this one. Is it just a sales gimmick of more is better type of thing?
Talk about a lot of extra weight and throwing a combo out of balance, this would be it.

Four-Way Handle???
I was browsing ebay looking at reels and found a reel with a four-way handle on it. I have never seen one before and did not even know they existed. The auction page says they think it was an aftermarket handle made by Gator Grip, but I did a search on it and could not find any info on it. Regardles...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas
... Wonder why Volvo exchanged hands from Ford to the Chinese? :-k I can answer that one! The Chinese have not been effective with creating their own brands, so they have opted to buy already established companies and their developed brand reputations along with the deal. In other words, the Chines...
Re: Why
So what is really happening here is a very silent nod to Chinese manufacturing through the JDM products. So up front the JDM customer is all about not liking the Chinese cheap junk products, yet are in reality actually holding one in their hands! I did it again. This is what got me in trouble to be...
Re: Why
I don't think anyone is arguing with you that parts are and could be made in China, but what you made it sound like is the JDM QA rejects are just as good as the ones they sell as JDM goods. No sir, I would not have made that claim or even close. My point was, when those of you are spending hundred...
Re: Why
I hear ya! but... Here are some posts about Japanese Seiko watches which are about the exact same situation seen here with rods and reels: ""Made In Japan" vs. "Japan Mov't" -- relevant differences? I've seen a bunch of models from Citizen and Orient in which there's one version, usually for a cheap...
