Re: The Search For One : Guess Who's Back Building Rods?
Fair enough. I just feel it's a solution looking for a problem. I've never broken a fishing rod for any reason, so I don't see what gain there is. I guess it's similar to the left hand reel group. I reel left or right hand with no observed advantage or disadvantage in either. I guess that's a whole...

Re: The Search For One : Guess Who's Back Building Rods?
So anyone know what's up on the triggerless configuration on the bigger rods (and what appears to be a spinning reel seat on the 8' mag heavy rod- 'handle type edge cast e'- see here- http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gary_Loomis_Edge_Spiral_Wrap_Casting_Rods/descpage-NFCC.html ) ? @Cal did Gary menti...

Re: The Search For One : Guess Who's Back Building Rods?
I guess maybe I'm the only one that thinks the spiral wrap could put more twisting stress on the blank. I was thinking the guides going around the side of the blank would be causing it to want to twist that direction. Then the guides on the bottom would be twisting it back the other way to straight...

Aside actual technique, location & pattern and overall "type" lure, rod length/power/action and reel IPTs...they will pick what they endorse.JWR075 wrote:Good ready, interesting to see what the Pros would pick.

Re: Welcome Back Shimano : The 2013 Metanium
After looking closely at both the Antares & met... They seem to have a lot in common. They seem to have all the same features, same micro gearing, same line capacity, share the same 7.4:1 gear ratio in the hg model. Main gear material is different, and different gear ratios, but... The met is s...

Re: The Search For One : Guess Who's Back Building Rods?
Does the length of time a rod experiences torque have more of an impact than the frequency with which it is subjected to torque (if there is any impact at all)? Apparently, nobody knows. If evidence does become available, most of us will probably read it at this site first. :) And that's the last I...

I checked out his vids while researching the Okuma big bait reels...intriguing and fun. Liked everything about his approach to "life"...aside "bouncing big bass".

Re: Not Built to Suffer Fools Gladly : Daiwa's Z200/Z2020
You can use any line size upwards of 65-80lb braid on the Z...I don't think you want to go under 12-15lb mono on it though. I generally have 50lb braid or 15lb - 17lb CXX on mine.
BTW, comparing Z vs Steez is apples to oranges.

Finally...a series to get into the Curado/Revo/Quantum/Pfleuger/Lew's/Okuma/OEM camp from Daiwa; that actually appears able to "bear arms against".

Indeed ROG...nothin's new.
However, machining/manufacturing capabilities along with "modern" materials do help performance quite a bit.
