I haven't measured a lot of different powers in a particular series. Would be interesting to do (without buying :D ).

G Loomis SB811 and SB812 differs by 140g
Rogue SJ702 and SJ703 differs by 160g

Re: 4 inches off the back please...

Bronzeye, the deflection is 1/3 of the working length so shorter working length calls for less deflection. For the 3S363 65" WL is 21 2/3" deflection and 61" WL is 20 1/3". I put up the numbers agreeing with your assumption that the reel seat would be moved up.

Re: 4 inches off the back please...

Just for grins, when I started collecting RDA data I measured a few rods at 1" intervals on the working length to see how much change I could detect.

St Croix 3S63MXF
WL 65" - 451 grams
WL 61" - 420 grams

St Croix 3C62MXF
WL 64" - 502 grams
WL 60" - 465 grams

Re: Fuji Point Blank Rod Blanks

I don't have any info on the IMX844C you mentioned, but I just built and fished the PB701MHF as a spinning rod for redfish. At first feel, the soft fast tip makes it seem not too powerful, but in practice it works well with 1/4oz leadheads/shadtails, and really shows power when loaded. The biggest f...

Re: MHX and Revelation blank comparison?

The SB812 has been my go to blank for redfish since when it was made by G Loomis. The MHX standard modulus is a clone but a little lighter. The MHX high modulus is a full 1/2 ounce lighter than the original G Loomis with the same power and action. There are times when I need to be able to cast a lig...

Re: Calculating for Lure Weight

BTW, I know I’m “preaching to the choir”, but…….the mfg’rs lure weight range is pretty broad (arbitrary)….for good reason. The optimum lure weight range given really has to be determined by the individual angler and his/her casting style and the amount of energy put into the rod (on Average). For a...

Re: MHX High-Mod Gen 2

That's the spinner bait one right mike? If so have you used it as a jerkbait rod? The length seems good along with the action and extra fast tip for working the bait. I would love your input. SS, I'm not even sure what a jerk bait is  Most of my fishing is inshore saltwater for trout and redf...

From the Mudhole website: "The HM Generation II blanks feature 100% Japanese Toray Fiber and incorporate a new hardened resin system. By utilizing state of the art technology and materials available on the market MHX was able to achieve several goals with the Gen. II's including: Overall reduction i...

They had blanks and some finished rods at ICAST, a couple of really nice spinning rods. All around nice feel with plenty of power but flexible enough tips that should cast light weights well. I'm looking forward to the blanks being available.

Re: What would you NOT build with again?

I fish mostly saltwater for speckled trout and redfish.

No guides or reel seats with gold or TiCH plating. Both corrode/discolor even with good rinsing after use.

No split rear grips on spinning rods. Uncomfortable to me and add to tip heaviness.

Re: MHX blend, extra fast?

Not a bass guy, but this is my favorite blank for redfish. I've used the G. Loomis, MHX standard, and MHX HM versions. During the Mudhole design, I built and reviewed a protptype SM for them. Definitely extra-fast . . . here are some spec averages. G Loomis: Weight 2.35oz, Butt 0.57", RDA Tip 69°, R...
