Welcome pokeguy. I'll take a crack at this. Even though you have two reels of the same line class does not mean the components and chassis is equal. That's exactly what came to my mind when I read your post. Drill a hole through the cap and pipe, and use a hitch locking pin. Make sure you don't use any cheap cables that can be cut in a second! Use either really thick cables or the dog-bone hitch lock. You wouldn't want to lose your rods! Welcome...
