Re: Son wants a low profile casting reel
Ok...I went with a BB1 :6.4. Got a good deal on one and if he doesnt end up using it a lot, Ive got little invested in it; as it is a lefty reel I will not adopt it. Had and still have a Lews from the 70's when they were 1st intro'd. Although I prefer braid for most applications, Im thinking 12lb mo...

Re: Spinning Reel on Lake of the Woods
I use a Pflueger Patriarch 35. Good all round reel with arguably the best drag system for the $. The 35 model has 14lbs of drag while the smaller sizes in the series cap out at considerably less. Spool is braid friendly, its exceptionally light, performed well for me this year and is the only spinni...

Son wants a low profile casting reel
I have a son who is showing interest in learning to use a baitcaster. Ive always owned round reels but am wondering if a low profile would be better suited for a novice. Also, all my reels are right handed and he wants a leftie. Budget is up to $200. What do you fellows suggest?

Re: Question about leader knots
Kinda surprised theres been no reference to the Yucatan knot. I do a lot of trolling in northern lakes and get hung up on rocks once in a while. That will test any knots strength. The Yucatan has never slipped/broken. Easy to tie and strong. With braid 12 turns is recommended not the 6 turn as per l...

Re: Bad on line shopping experience
Wow that is really lousy. I just purchased from them recently and their service was great. Hopefully they'll make things right for you. What really irks me is that I phoned them a few days after placing the order to inquire as to why the order hadnt shipped. They said the lip gripper and pliers wer...

Bad on line shopping experience
I try and give retailers the benefit of the doubt as I too own a retail business however my recent experience was so distasteful, I feel compelled to post. I placed an order with LBF for a lip gripper and a set of fishing pliers. In order to rationalize the cost of shipping to Canada, I added some t...

Re: Costa Del Mar Wave 580G lens color?
Interesting comments on Costa lenses. Here are the exact specs on COSTA lenses. Mirrors ( Green & Blue ) darken light transmission by 2%. Amber, Copper, and Grey lenses 580 or 400 series have a light transmission of 12% , with green & blue mirrors they go down to 10%, except copper with silver mirr...

Re: best mono u have used?
Agreed...Elite in 10lb is my go to for open water. Have taken a 33 lbs Laker and 47" Northern on that line. In fact Ive never had a knot failure or a line break. 100% confidence. What more could you ask for?trout27 wrote:Haven't fished Defier but I love suffix elite. It is cheap and handles really well.

Re: 2 Piece Ignorance
For the last decade every rod Ive purchased has been a two piece. I have offerings from Fenwick (Aetos & Elite Smallie), ABU Veritas, St Croix premier and two customs on St Croix blanks. I do 2 - 3 fly in trips a year and the practical advantage of a two piece vs the loss in performance is obvious. ...

Re: Embarrassed that i even gotta ask.. Patriarch egg beater
But is there a reel schematic to the pfleuger patriarch spinner? There is so much play in the the pinion support bearing and the polyethylene bushing it sits in...that i was able to put electrical tape around the bearing to take up the slop. Thinking i may have reassembled it wrong...even though i ...
