Re: Tournament Tips and Strategy
Tournament fishing is a game of odds. The better the odds are in your favor the better chance that you will not be just a "donor". I like to pick my battles. If I am no good in the summer then I do not fish summer tournaments. I always fish my stregnths. In my opinion, tournament time is not the tim...

Re: Small Club Co-Angler Tournament Protocol
The way that I see it.... you should always work together whether you are fishing against the guy in the boat or not. The goal is to catch fish. Just because someone owns the boat does not necessarily mean they are the only one that knows where and how to catch fish. The final decission may be the "...

Re: Staying with a Lure or Technique that's NOT Working
KVD once said.... "I'll try anything for 20 minutes". I kinda follow that rule. I will try a lure for 30 minutes before changing.

Re: Hooks
When I fish for money, I use Owner ST 41 hooks on my own handmade crankbaits. I truely believe that the curved point results in a clean penetration with no ripping of the roof of the mouth. I have seen too many straight pointed hooks just rip a gash in the fish. Plus they are a pretty stout hook and...

Re: Split rings Oval vs. Round
I like the round split rings. I feel that the action of the lure is better because the lure has more room to swing. However, the teardrop rings that 21 farms put up here are interesting. I might have to check those out.

Very, Very Nice. I too love the Deps rods. Also love the way you did the decals on the reels. Very tasteful.

Re: Looking for a cranking rod..
Fiberglass is the least sensitive you can go. Seven foot is plenty if you have a good reel and you are proficient at throwing crankbaits. Plus it is easier to handle and store in someone else's boat. Florocarbon line can really make a difference in sensitivity with all crankbait rods regardless of t...

Every reel that I own has Shimano written on it. Always will.

Re: Buzzbaits That Will Run Straight
I had been using the 3/8 and 1/2 oz Lunker lures. They just don't run straight. You really have to bend the crap out of them to run true (if you can at all). I do not use a trailer or a trailer hook. I have tried Strike King, Bass Pro, and Booyah; none of them worked for me. Then a guy told me about...

Re: Crooked blanks on high end rods?
Rod blanks that are not straight drive me nuts as well. However, it is very hard to find them. I usually will not buy a rod without seeing it for this reason. I spend a lot of time making crankbaits perfect for folks and I expect the same care to be taken when someone (or company) builds a rod regar...

Re: pitching vs flipping rods
" When I watch Japanese fishing videos they all use shorter rods for pitching, but here in America it seems flipping & pitching rods are one in the same- long & heavy action." From the videos that I have watched of the Japanese pitching, most of them are pitching lures under over hangs. They have a ...

Buzzbaits That Will Run Straight
Do any of you guys know of a buzz that will run straight? I have been throwing Lunker Lures for many years, but they seem to be getting harder and harder to tune. So I am looking for something else. I was told that the cavitron was a good running bait. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Crankba...
