San Luis Reservoir Monday, July 5th
Took my dad and brother to the main lake yesterday for a half day trip. Been monitoring the wind conditions and knew it would blow really bad. We launched anyway and fished until 10am. We landed 12 fish, 2 keepers. All of the fish were in 5' or less. Fish ate Super Spooks, pearl white Fish Traps, 3/...

Re: Zander? JIP? San Luis on Monday?
Yeah, thinking of towing my bassboat down there. I'll probably hit the main lake since I can find places to duck out of the wind in some of the coves.
I plan on tossing artificials only. No trolling or bait fishing. If it sucks, I'll just go home!!

Re: Zander? JIP? San Luis on Monday?
Yes, pleasure boats and PWC are allowed. But being on a lake, you won't feel crowded compared to a narrow slough. If you don't want to deal with them at all, go up to Pardee. No bodily contact with the water at all. East Bay Mud owns that water, and they don't want anyone tainting it before it gets ...

Re: Zander? JIP? San Luis on Monday?
sdesign- Trust me when I tell you that no basser should fish on ANY three day holiday on the Delta. If you do, do one of two things. Launch early and get off the water around 9:30am or launch out west and fish Big Break or Sherman Lake. You simply can't avoid the pleasure boaters this weekend. They'...

Zander? JIP? San Luis on Monday?
Thinking of hitting the main lake or the forebay on Monday morning for a little striper action. What's the latest report from you guys?
Thanks,
Capt

Re: Boats
Glad you found the link to the Xpress boats. Unfortunately they don't have a dealer in California. I think they may still have one in Washington. It's the best of both worlds, the length and performance of glass but the weight and durability of aluminum. Yes, I know Dean Sault. He's a very well spok...

Re: Boats
sdesign- If you want the best of both worlds, look into the Xpress line of boats. They're big and made from aluminum. Regarding your comments on BassCat boats, Dean's is very fast. The Cougar FTD is a great fishing platform. The storage in the front deck is second to none. Rough water ride is excell...

Re: Here we GO!!!!!
Congrats on your high finish Flippin Pigs. We're in a lull during the summer in California. The department of Fish & Game regulates our events to only 6 hours. It makes the fishing a little tougher when you need to start heading back to weigh in at 11:30 am. I'm surprised that the tournament officia...

Re: Big Bass Baits
sdesign- All of these fishermen you read about are regular guys like you and I. I'm fortunate to call many of them my friends. I'm in awe of their accomplishments and innovative techniques. Next time you see them, whether on the water or at a trade show, just say hi. Nine out of ten times they stop ...

Re: Big Bass Baits
sdesign & JR- I took Russ "Bass Dozer" Comeau of GYCB out to the delta a while back. He wrote about our trip in a story provided by the link. It answers a lot of the questions you posed about frog fishing. Some of this info has changed, so you need to change accordingly. http://www.bassdozer.com/art...

Re: Favorite Technique for Stripers?
Sdesign-you have to rip for black bass, especially early spring. You're passing up too many fish if you don't give this technique a try. Compared to rippin' for stripers, which requires a hard fast retrieve, rippin' for blacks is pretty easy. Helps to use a light rod and a magnesium reel like the Pi...

Re: Favorite Technique for Stripers?
I was introduced to rippin' for stripers three years ago from a very accomplished bass angler here on the delta. After one retrieve, I realized I didn't like this technique too much. The baits he uses are 5-6 inches long, and he rips very very hard and fast. But, testament to the technique, he has l...
Re: Favorite?
Lures are tools, and you are really selling yourself short if you limit a style of lure to your favorites. Everyone's goals are to evolve into a better angler, and one major learning experience for me was to overcome fishing "favorites". You've heard it before, and there's so much truth to the state...

Re: New to the forum
A 15' aluminum w/ a 40 HP is not a small boat! It's fine for Frank's Tract! Plus, if it gets windy, there are plenty of places to duck out of the wind. I started fishing the delta in a 11' jon boat w/ a 4 HP motor. Now that's a small boat! We used to put in at Ladd's and fish the deep water channel ...
