Re: Reel Gear Physics
Adding longer handle does increase the torque being applied to the drive shaft though, because torque equation takes into account of distance between the pivot point to the point where you are applying the force. Think about it this way; when you are adding more length to the handle, you are increa...

Re: Reel Gear Physics
maybe im off on this, but doesnt a longer handle increase the gear ratio/speed? Gear ratio if im not mistaken is the amount of times a spool does a complete rotation per 1 turn of the handle. If you have a longer handle, you are turning the spool more times in one rotation vs a shorter handle... It...

Re: SV103 for big baits?
2-3 oz bait will cause more than enough tension with the braid to snap your braid or break your leader. Are you talking about the SV103 specifically, or braid and 2 - 3 oz baits in general? SV103 will be fine if you load it up with 16 lb nylon or fluoro. I am just talking about braid and big baits,...

Re: Calcutta Conquest BFS
I do feel little different(connected feeling) when spinning the handle, but Conquest BFS is still the same level of smoothness as my 14 Conquest 201 and 15 Conquest 101HG for sure. Very nice, how smooth is the new Calcutta BFS? Be careful. I opened up my Metanium MGL other day only to find that the...

Re: SV103 for big baits?
I've never casted anything that heavy with mine. The 1016 spool might be a better fit for this. I don't necessarily need the larger capacity (20lb braid to floro leader here), but from what I'm reading the stronger inductor spring might be more suited for heavy bait duty. I'll look into this more.....

Re: Skipping with BFS Reels
I take it you have never skipped with an SV or other Air Brake spool? You really ought to give it a shot if not. They're eye openers in the skipping department for sure. I've also owned SS SV, and also casted Steez Limited XHL and Millionaire I'ze w SV105 spool. The older generation SV spool kinda ...

Re: Skipping with BFS Reels
The handful of skips in that Shimano video tell us very little. I have no interest in skipping with a centrifugal braking reel because I understand that a system that cuts in and then cuts out is not the type of braking I want to control a lure rapidly decelerating as it skips across the surface of...

Re: Skipping with BFS Reels
The magnetic field generated in disturbance according to Faraday's law is linearly proportional to EMF generated, rotational velocitytr, and time. The centrifugal force is based on mass times velocity squared divided by the radius so the break does get stronger "faster" as you increase the rotation...
