Re: How Much Braid?

Some of the new braid ready spools work fine without either tape or backing. In this case I just fill the reel all the way up with braid. Standard spools I use tape.

Fuji Ultra Poly Thread

I started using this stuff about a year ago, and like it so much that I keep buying more -- even though I still have many colors of some of the previous nylon threads I had purchased. Ultra Poly seems to pack tighter with less effort on my builds. The A size also seems to be a bit smaller than A siz...

Re: Tackle addict vs fisherman?

I find myself to be both a Tackle addict and a fisherman. I've got plenty of gear, so during the summer I often don't purchase much. Winter is another game entirely -- yes I go ice fishing -- but summer salmon fishing is what really gets me going -- and it is a long time from early September until M...

Re: Is it the rod or the reel?

I agree technique has implications -- but so does the size and species of fish targeted. Currently when back trolling for chinook salmon my bait casting rods and reels are close to equally expensive -- and some of my rod / reel combinations are beyond the $450 price. If I had to get back under that ...

Re: Smaller Spinning Reels

I agree that better sensitivity and a lighter overall feel can often be attained by using a smaller reel, but as this thread has demonstrated up to this point there are additional considerations as well. Small reels for me generally means down to 2500 size but not smaller. Most of the time I am fish...

Re: Durability of Winn Grips

I appreciate each person sharing on this post -- and will likely have a much stronger opinion on how durable / good looking Winn grips are after a summer of use on my salmon charters. I did have 3 rods that I installed Winn Grips too on some of my salmon charters last summer and those handles still ...

Re: Durability of Winn Grips

Thanks for the reply -- continues my wondering how long the Winn Grips will last on my rods. I built a bunch with Winn Grips hoping they would be more durable than corker and also might look cleaner than old cork. I'm now planning to wait a while and see how well the present grip on my rods hold up ...

Durability of Winn Grips

I've been installing Winn Grips -- in particular as the rear grip of most rods I have been building this fall. In the thread about possibly installing grips using 2-sided tape there was a mention of Winn Grips wearing out and needing to be replaced. What are the experiences of other builders on this...

Re: Rainshadow Eternity builds?

I am in the process of building the same Eternity blank you are talking about and a Point Blank PB731MHXF. Presently I have the handles glued on, guides spaced and on the blanks, but have not started wrapping either rod. Both blanks have a light and sensitive feel to them. The new Eternity seems to ...

Kastking rod rack review - Christmas Timely

Although I already own a couple rod racks ( my number of rods has way surpassed their storage capacity) so when I read TackleTour's Kastking rod rack review http://tackletour.com/reviewkastkingrodrack.html with the Editor's Choice Award, I was immediately spurred into action. Although it will be a w...

Re: The NEW 2017 Batson Enterprises Product Catalog is Here!

After reading this post and requesting a catalog from Batson Enterprises --- Mine has already arrived in the mail. Have not had time to look through it properly yet --- as salmon fishing season is in full swing in Alaska at the moment.

Re: Who is going to ICAST?

I am not going, but am curious when it will occur this year. The information may be on another thread, but I am so busy guiding fishing trips that I don't spend much time on Tackle Tour during the summer. Thank You,

Re: Bringing old Rod Bond back to life

Wow! That really worked well -- my Rod Bond seems to be restored just as good as new. That was also a good mention about only heating about 10 seconds at a time --- I likely would have overdone it otherwise. Took me 3 shots at 10 seconds each and a little stirring. Does microwaving also work with Fl...

Bringing old Rod Bond back to life

The owner of the local tackle shop gave me some old bottles of Rod Bond epoxy paste -- the white portion of the mix which seems to have crystalized. Does anyone know if there is some way to bring the stuff back to its original condition? The stuff I have is in unused bottles -- so if possible I'd li...
