Re: Give me the lowdown on building handle on carbon tube

Its the way the Japanese do it. Personally, I think its better to build right on the blank. You're not doubling up on the carbon that way. And I feel better about my sensitivity when there isn't all that overlap of carbon right at the place where your hand is in contact with the blank. I'm sure the ...

Offroad Enthusiasts – Advice Needed

Bumper/Winch advice… I have a 1993 Nissan Hardbody SE-V6 King Cab. I’ve owned this truck since it was brand new and actually just retired it from street driving in 2011. At that time I bought a set of Firestone Destination MT’s and “retired” her to woods duty. I have 160 acres of heavily wooded hunt...

Re: What to do with broken JDM Destroyer?

can i sell it to someone to use the parts off of it for a custom build? Yes could i sell it to someone to make some sort of a splice/repair? Yes i've since replaced my spinnerbait rod so i really don't have a good need for this thing, but it pains me to look at it broken on my rod rack and there's ...

Personally, I'd learn to pen them. I hate decals.

Re: Need help fixing Megabass F5-75X7 Extreme Mission

Thanks for the help everyone. Should I remove all the tape and just use 2-part epoxy? Tape is bad. If you epoxy over tape your connection between the parts is still the tape. I'd use a reel seat arbor to take up the gap between the handle blank and the inside of the reel seat threads. I'd take an a...

OK. I just had a thought that they forgot to glue that whole thing together.

So, just take care to keep the ferrule clear of epoxy when you mount the threaded barrel.

Silly follow up question...

Is that supposed to be a 2-piece rod?

Re: Need help fixing Megabass F5-75X7 Extreme Mission

Thanks for the additional photos...big help. I'm confused by the tape. That's just odd in my mind. Almost like it was there as a filler while laying everything out during the build and they just forgot to remove the tape and glue it. I do stuff like that when I'm laying things out to get everything ...

Re: Need help fixing Megabass F5-75X7 Extreme Mission

So, I'm not 100% sure of what should be going on here construction wise. And I've never worked on a rod like this so I haven't held one. I'm guessing a lot here. I'm assuming that piece with the tape inside it is threaded for the hood and also has a raceway to keep it aligned. My gut is telling me t...

Re: Cranking rod or M or MH fast rod for throwing Topwater

That's personal preference.

I personally want a 6'6" fast or ex-fast rated up to 1/2 to 3/4 ounce lures on the high end.

Re: Top Water Rod question

I build two very different rods for topwater use. Shorter, stiffer, faster rods and longer, softer, moderate rods. Basically jig sticks and crankin' sticks.

What you've got would be ideal for many. And would be horrible for others. (like me) You'll have to try for yourself.

Re: Shaky head blank suggestions

You would suggest the ML instead of the M power on the point blank? Don't get too hung up on terms like ML and M. They are arbitrary, at best, terms. If you're talking one line of blanks from one manufacturer, then sure. But across lines and especially across manufacturers, they are almost without ...

Re: Shaky head blank suggestions

If high end is where you want to be, its the SCV, HM, K2, or Point Blank in my opinion. NFC and Phenix, while great blanks, aren't going to be as fast as a St. Croix XF action. I don't have any blank in my database from those two companies that match the St. Croix XF's I have. Point Blank will be th...

Re: Question on Broken Megabass Rod

is this thing of any value to anyone? There are guys out there looking for stuff like that. I have one customer that has sent me a half a dozen or so Megabass rods to Frankenstien. I've built new on just the handle, used part of the handle, taken the handle off one rod and put it on another Megabas...
