Re: Reel seat & handle removal - risk to blank??

Sure there is a risk. Especially with reel seats that fit snugly against the rod blank. Like a Fuji ECS. A good experienced builder shouldn't have trouble though. Damage to the paint on painted blanks is going to happen. Reel seats don't come off cleanly. Really, any epoxy on paint is going to leave...

Re: St Croix. . . . Naked

Why does anyone strip a rod A lot of guys don't like St. Croix's colors. Paint = weight. Weight = reduction in performance. what do ANY of them look like "stripped"??? Its hard to describe but the graphite isn't in a "regular pattern". The graphite will be "normal" in a lot of areas. Very consisten...

Re: Line guide replacement

That's a ~$25 repair by any builder. If you've got a local tackle shop, they often have a guy that does that sort of work that they can refer you to.

Re: One piece rod made into a 2 piece

Well heck look what I stumbled upon here, count me in on that as well!! also would it be possible to do a four-piece configuration Allah some of the Megabass rods I like? Would love a four-piece heavier or M/H Megabass rod :big grin: Sure. Anything is possible. Quite a bit of work. But it could be ...

That's highly variable depending on what needs to happen, if guides need to be re positioned, etc. Just off the cuff, I'd expect a minimum of $100.

Re: One piece rod made into a 2 piece

Yes it can be done. I've turned several factory rods into 2-piece rods. I build a sleeve over ferrule.

Re: St Croix. . . . Naked

I've stripped quite a few. Not the prettiest graphite I've seen. Especially the SCV. Lots of swirls and blobs. Then again, if you're into unique and free form, you'll probably love it.

Matt I have another question for you. Do you have a lathe, and can you make grips?
Yes I do. I have a full sized woodworking lathe. I pretty much make all my own grips.

Re: Give me the lowdown on building handle on carbon tube

Its the way the Japanese do it. Personally, I think its better to build right on the blank. You're not doubling up on the carbon that way. And I feel better about my sensitivity when there isn't all that overlap of carbon right at the place where your hand is in contact with the blank. I'm sure the ...

Offroad Enthusiasts – Advice Needed

Bumper/Winch advice… I have a 1993 Nissan Hardbody SE-V6 King Cab. I’ve owned this truck since it was brand new and actually just retired it from street driving in 2011. At that time I bought a set of Firestone Destination MT’s and “retired” her to woods duty. I have 160 acres of heavily wooded hunt...

Re: What to do with broken JDM Destroyer?

can i sell it to someone to use the parts off of it for a custom build? Yes could i sell it to someone to make some sort of a splice/repair? Yes i've since replaced my spinnerbait rod so i really don't have a good need for this thing, but it pains me to look at it broken on my rod rack and there's ...

Re: Need help fixing Megabass F5-75X7 Extreme Mission

Thanks for the help everyone. Should I remove all the tape and just use 2-part epoxy? Tape is bad. If you epoxy over tape your connection between the parts is still the tape. I'd use a reel seat arbor to take up the gap between the handle blank and the inside of the reel seat threads. I'd take an a...

OK. I just had a thought that they forgot to glue that whole thing together.

So, just take care to keep the ferrule clear of epoxy when you mount the threaded barrel.
