Re: NFC DS 761-1 (HM)

You might not be making agressive overhand casts with 3/8 or 1/2 oz but there’s no way it feels under powered with that size weight. This is a very good point...there is a big difference between slinging out big casts and actual fishing. Its very easy to fish over the lure max for a rod when all yo...

Re: Fuji clnag8j help?

C = chrome L = frame style N = frame style (double foot) A = Alconite G = guide (T = top) 8 = frame ID J = denoted the frame/ring interaction I think (this has kind of gone away) Ya, that guide was discontinued by Fuji a few years ago I think. Try Bingham Enterprises. I know they had some discontinu...

Re: NRX tip twist

I'm guessing that your tip top is on a little crooked. Look at it while not under load. Its also possible that it is not glued well and can shift. The big factories build casting rods incorrectly (IMO). All casting rods should be built with the running guides on the under side of the blank like a sp...

Re: Foul Weather Gear - Simms, Gill, Cabelas Guidewear or what?

Regarding the ECWCS: Have it. Served in it. I still wear mine to the woods if its damp or the snow is wet and heavy. But it doesn't hold a candle to Guidewear, 100MPH, or Simms. If you're looking to get into something tough at a reasonable price, it will certainly fit that category.

Re: St Croix. . . . Naked

Thanks for the info. As mentioned I´m very happy with the result of the SC3. But I´m about to work an an SC5 that needs to be sanded down, too. So should I seal the surface after sanding? Or is it just the irregular apperance of the fibers that irritates? Just appearance I use carnuba wax when the ...

Any idea what a stripped Loomis BCR GLX blank looks like? Would it look similar to the older MBR GLX blanks?
I've redone a half dozen or so BCR's and they all look like most everyone else's blanks. Just a straight up sanded blank. (Unlike the Legend Elite blanks)

Re: Reel seat & handle removal - risk to blank??

Sure there is a risk. Especially with reel seats that fit snugly against the rod blank. Like a Fuji ECS. A good experienced builder shouldn't have trouble though. Damage to the paint on painted blanks is going to happen. Reel seats don't come off cleanly. Really, any epoxy on paint is going to leave...

Re: St Croix. . . . Naked

Why does anyone strip a rod A lot of guys don't like St. Croix's colors. Paint = weight. Weight = reduction in performance. what do ANY of them look like "stripped"??? Its hard to describe but the graphite isn't in a "regular pattern". The graphite will be "normal" in a lot of areas. Very consisten...

Re: Line guide replacement

That's a ~$25 repair by any builder. If you've got a local tackle shop, they often have a guy that does that sort of work that they can refer you to.

Re: One piece rod made into a 2 piece

Well heck look what I stumbled upon here, count me in on that as well!! also would it be possible to do a four-piece configuration Allah some of the Megabass rods I like? Would love a four-piece heavier or M/H Megabass rod :big grin: Sure. Anything is possible. Quite a bit of work. But it could be ...

That's highly variable depending on what needs to happen, if guides need to be re positioned, etc. Just off the cuff, I'd expect a minimum of $100.

Yes it can be done. I've turned several factory rods into 2-piece rods. I build a sleeve over ferrule.

Re: St Croix. . . . Naked

I've stripped quite a few. Not the prettiest graphite I've seen. Especially the SCV. Lots of swirls and blobs. Then again, if you're into unique and free form, you'll probably love it.

Yes I do. I have a full sized woodworking lathe. I pretty much make all my own grips.
