Re: Chronarch G vs Chronarch MGL

I have 2 Chronarch MGL’s that I use with mono in freshwater, switching to saltwater-safe “G” spools with braid for inshore use. Works perfectly. The only difference is that the G spools are 15.5 grams and don’t cast light baits as well as the 13.5 gram MGL spools.

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai

Xplasma Asegai is similar to fused fireline 8 ultra. So if you are not a fan of stiff and wiry line, you might not like it. Personally, for the thin stuff, I like stiff, wiry and smooth and that is what this line possess. Regarding the Fireline 8 Ultra, several users have remarked about it’s good s...

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

I do not think any of Shimano’s swept handles will clear the Core’s drag star, but to be honest I have not tried it. The 100mg7 handle is only 84mm, not much help there. Hawgtech has straight 90 and 94mm handles as well as a swept 102mm that I use on my Core 51 (KEEPER!) If you can get past the look...

Stradic CI4+ Spool Compatibility

I am planning to use my CI4+ 2500FA for light saltwater and would like to buy a spare spool with a little more line capacity. Will the 3000FA spool fit properly on my 2500?

Re: Metanium MGL Issue

Sounds like your Met may have a bad spool bearing. I had that happen with a brand new Shimano a few years ago. Flushing the bearing made no improvement, I had to replace that bearing.

Re: Megabass fmj vs valdiva

Is there a noticable difference in sensitivity between the fmj and pp? I like the idea of the valdiva s extra length for launching frogs but I find sometime s that it is hard to get a hook in the fish if they are too far out. But when I use it to pitch up under over hangs the extra length sometimes...

Re: Best braid for spinning reels?

Sufix Performance Braid will cast much farther than 832, and at least as well or better than any other braid I have tried over the years.

Re: Shimano's newer braking

I found that the Gen 1 SVS on the 13 Met was just as good and as reliable as the old VBS. The adjustability was a bonus. The latest 3rd Generation used on the MGLs is Shimano’s best ever IMHO. A great braking profile, completely predictable operation, no surprises. That Gen 2 (4 red blocks) system u...

Re: Advice for a 1/2oz jig rod and some long-winded musings.

As a full time bankbeater I use the NRX 873 as my 3/8 and 1/2oz jig rod. It also works great with 1/4 to 3/8oz t-rigs and any single hook moving bait. It is perfect for those apps. Balance is subjective, the rubber chair leg protector-no quarters works for me.

Re: Bantam MGL Who has their hands on one?

According to the schematic, the spool and pinion bearing layout is identical to other Shimano “silent tune” reels, the Aldebaran and Met MGL.

Re: Metanium vs Chronarch

Don't own the Chronarch MGL. yet :D Have 13, 16 mets and CI4. If for moving baits, I'd go chronarch. The metanium is what I like for bottom bouncing. I don't have an issue with the old CI4 for a lipless crank so the MGL version must be out of this world for apps like that. Yes it is. I put a CI4 on...

The MGL and 13 have different spools and frames, MGL has a bearing on the spool (pinion side) the 13 does not, therefore the spool shafts are not the same.

One question. Do the 13 and MGL Mets both use the same pinion gear?

Re: Small Swimbait Rod Choice

Made my road trip to Tackle Trap, and purchased the Hyuga 72H. I think it will be perfect for it's intended use. Casts travel 2 doors down the street with 1.5 oz. Should look and perform just amazing with the new Bantam!

Thank You to the guys at Tackle Trap for your help with this decision.
