Re: Native trout style rod for small bass and panfish?

I can't comment on "almost any" but all the native trout rods I've fished with would do just fine for small bass and panfish. One eighth ounce lures are in the range for all them. Right in the sweet spot for some and on the lower end for others, but all I've fished with could cast them we...

Native trout style rod for small bass and panfish?

My wife has never been super interested in fishing but likes to come wading for smallmouths with me a few times a year. The other week she stumbled on the Enjoy Fishing Channel on youtube and though it was the coolest thing ever and that she wanted to learn to cast like that. She really wants a tiny...

Re: keitech 2.8 rigging

I like to use a small Draggin'/Sled/Crawler head with the 2.8's, I tend to fish them on the bottom more the swimming them, for that I think the Easy Shiner body style works a bit better.

Any non-perishable good that is constantly being sold "buy one get one free" should be looked at with extreme suspicion, like buying a mattress from a place that has had a 4-year long "going out of business" sale.

Re: Which Steez On Destroyer FMJ ?

Yesterday I bought a Megabass Destroyer FMJ and a Daiwa Steez reel to pair with. Just want to see if I made the right decision... Will only be used for 3/8 - 1/2 oz jigs & creature baits on 20lb straight fluoro. Which Steez would pair the best with FMJ purely as a functional choice (without con...

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

My Ned's weigh in around 3/16 total and my old Benkei L handed them pretty well but I would not go much over. The same total weight on a DS was far better feeling. I felt like the sweet spot was between 1/8 and 3/16oz. I rechecked and I did have the 672L, not the shorter one. It was a fun little rod...

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

I just got myself a Benkei 672L (Fast action) myself to either pair with pixy with Ray’s spool or scorpion 70 with ray’s Spool. Today I went out to test it with crappies jig 1/16 oz with baby shad. It load up fine but casting distance is not so desirable. I also have Go Emotion 652L (MF) and this r...

Re: Was the Daiwa CG CC CR 80's a colossal failure to Daiwa?

Nope. Your best bet would be for one of the deeper DIY Long Cast spools. You could pick up a Fuego CT and the spool for under $100. Not bad. That is an interesting idea. Right now I have neon 30lb braid on them but if I want to use them and their rods (a pair of Fenwick ET Smallmouth MH/F) for bass...

I gave in over the weekend:

It's going to be warm for the next two days and I am pumped to get out with this thing. Even if the bass are not willing I think I can at least get a pickerel or two on it.

Re: Was the Daiwa CG CC CR 80's a colossal failure to Daiwa?

That's awesome  Yeah, Fuego CT is an under appreciated reel in general. I can't think of a better reel available in that $100 price range, it's really fantastic. Fortunately, we've been able to get them in a lot of hands and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive... Do you know if a NRC...

Re: Alphas air stream custom

Looking at the Japan Tackle page for the ACS, it says this: Freshwater only (ball bearings are all high precision stainless steel bearings, not anti-rust treated) Is that all that is keeping the ACS from being salt-safe? I think I want to pick one up as part of my quest for the "Ultimate 1/8oz...

Re: 5 gram Trout Spoon Box

That is a nice collection. I am getting into spoons as well, but mostly 3-3.5g ones. My biggest issue is trying to get info about how the different brands/styles differ in action. Sometimes I can find a underwater video but for most jdm spoons there seems to be nothing out there. How did you pick th...

Re: Was the Daiwa CG CC CR 80's a colossal failure to Daiwa?

Yes indeed. Even though the Fuego CT MSRP has gone to $109.95 now, it's still so much better than that series, and not a lot more than the top end of the 3. It's actually a Daiwa  I bought a pair of Fuego CT's last year for kayak trolling and man if I was handed $500 and told to go buy myself ...

Re: **Hand me a Lando Calrissian moment this afternoon**

I had the same idea last season, trying to focus on big baits, and limited myself to lures in the $20-40 range to start with. I am glad I did as man it was rough going trying to learn how close to what cover an given lure/line combo could be risked with. I still have not found a good solution for ke...
